No Eric. This has nothing to do with Clancy.
About 500 children are killed by their parent a year. A father just did this in Kansas on August 6 and then killed himself. 4 children.
Fathers are more likely to kill their children than mother but it’s not a wide gap. About 57% are fathers.
High-profile cases do not create a "contagion effect" for parental violence. The national baseline has remained steady for decades.
What is my argument? That I actually watched the trial and understand what the jury is being asked to decide based on the evidence and the law, not emotion.
I have never argued that Lindsay Clancy should walk free because she was mentally ill. Frankly, I’m not even sure I buy the criminal responsibility argument. If the Commonwealth proved beyond a reasonable doubt that she murdered her three children, convict her and throw away the key. Too bad Massachusetts doesn’t have the death penalty.
But you cannot just say, “insane or not, she murdered them, case closed.” That is not how Massachusetts law works. The jury first has to determine whether the Commonwealth proved the charged crimes beyond a reasonable doubt. Then they address criminal responsibility. It is very different than every other state where in order to get to the insanity plea, they have to admit guilt. Massachusetts isn’t that way and Lindsay pleaded NOT GUILTY.
And after more than 30 HOURS of deliberations, this jury still has not been able to reach a unanimous verdict. So spare me the “open and shut, one-hour deliberation” nonsense.
The investigation itself was picked apart by the Commonwealth’s own witnesses. The prosecution was attacking the credibility of its own witnesses and wanted to impeach them. This trial has been an absolute shit show, and there are legitimate holes in the evidence. That matters when the burden is beyond a reasonable doubt.
Leave Candace out of it. She has gone completely off the rails and is freaking nuts. I’ve never listened to her or liked her, even before Charlie was murdered. It’s incredibly condescending to suggest that anyone who reaches a conclusion you don’t like must be parroting someone else.
What I find especially bizarre is watching conservatives essentially say, “Well, the government says she did it, so that’s good enough for me.” Since when did we stop questioning the government and demanding that the state meet its burden?
This is America. She is presumed innocent unless and until the Commonwealth proves her guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. That principle does not disappear because the crime is horrific.
In parts of the U.S., a r@pe survivor can be denied an abortion while her r@pist may still be able to claim parental rights if there’s no conviction. The system can protect a man’s connection to the pregnancy more than the woman’s right to escape it.
Instead of sharing the horrific, vile, & heart-stopping video of Charlie Kirk being shot, I urge you to share images of his beautiful family whose worst nightmare has come true.
Every kid deserves a dad.
Every wife deserves a husband.
Every American needs Charlie Kirk.
