"Why do women have to be nice and polite to the men who harass them. Why can't they just say no?"
This is why. Because if a girl says no, men will throw petrol bombs at her house. And more.
At this point, women and children in India are being raped and killed with such horrifying frequency that another case appears before people have even processed the last one.
"What radicalized you?"
Watching my female relatives plan, cook, shop, decorate, clean, and organize for the holidays while the men just show up and watch TV the whole time.
If @narendramodi is urging Indians to work from home to conserve fuel then his government should pass an order directing companies to allow work from home for a year. What does he mean by urging people to work from home? Does he think this decision is at the people’s discretion?
Can never understand how a father abandons his children for another woman. A mother who did the same would be collectively rejected by society, yet a man can do it and still get elected by that very society.
Unfortunately I think maturing as a woman is realising that misogyny is so ingrained in everything and quite literally impossible to avoid. It's in our media, it's in our light hearted conversations. It's in the expectation that your mum will have dinner ready. It's the man staring down your shirt on the train. It's in the jokes you overhear at the pub. It's that one line in your favourite TV show. It's your male relatives sitting down after Christmas dinner. It's the conversation you have with a 'well meaning' man at your hospitality job. We're tragically used to it.
As a child I questioned everything that didn't make sense to me. That's why patriarchy and religion just never had a strong hold. You're supposed to be the one cooking, why. You will get sent to hell, why. In your husband's house, why.
