As I've been writing a Thramas Crusade fic taking place on a feudal world, these pieces came to mind again. They're my favourite depictions of marines in medieval art styles, enjoy !
There is no purpose in dwelling on the past, lamenting what once was. No one will be there to offer you consolation.
Instead, learn from it and let that knowledge make you stronger. Even failure may become your key to success.

I'm listening to 'A Thousand Sons' by Graham McNeill and it is an excellent read/listen. I also like Magnus as a character and his whole Legion.
That being said, Magnus fully deserved what he got. He was arrogant in the extreme. When facing his retribution from the Emperor(granted Horus tricked Russ into believing it to be a kill order instead of just a capture order) he decides that all of Prospero and his entire Legion had to die with him and made zero effort to do otherwise. In fact he takes actions to ENSURE it when he couldve just surrendered himself instead.
What do I mean by that? Well Magnus had a ton of advanced warning of the Space Wolves/Russ's arrival. He couldve left his defenses in place and met with the Wolves in orbit offering himself as a sacrifice to save his planet and his Legion.
Now I know what you're thinking, could Russ have been reasoned with in the first place? Probably not if it was Magnus by himself. However, had Magnus ordered his defenses to be manned and offered to negotiate from a position of some strength I would bet Russ would've at least been open to dialogue if for no other reason then to preserve his own military assets.
Russ is a hot head but hes not stupid. Not to mention there were Custodians with him and I doubt one of them wouldnt have weighed in at that point.
But Magnus didnt even attempt that. He blocked his sons visions of the future. He sent the defensive fleet to the far corners of the system so they couldnt respond in time to the attack. Then when he told his sons 'hey so.....I fucked up so now we all gotta die' and was surprised when they decided to fight instead. Then when enough of his sons and the innocent of Prospero had died, he finally gets off his ass to do something about it when he has relatively no strength left militarily and thus Russ has no incentive to even contemplate any sort of negotiation. Russ knows he has won, hell Magnus knows he has won at that point so why would Russ have any motivation to work something else out.
Magnus righteously decided to face his punishment but that goes out the window when he also decided that a world needed to die with him along with his sons for HIS fuck up.
