Honoured to write the chapter on Patrick White, Australia's Nobel Prize of Literature laureate, for the newly published Cambridge Companion to the Australian Novel.
@ajphelo Shanghai has changed a lot from when you were here. It's comfortable and convenient esp. with the ever-present e-commerce. And there are new and better tasting beers here now. 😊🍻
@polijunkie_aus OZ exports to CN in 2021 was A$180bn, up 24% compared to 2020. What a tough "sanction"! 😂 BTW 华东师范大学 is East China Normal University. And 研究 shld be "studies", not "study". Accuracy and correctness, basic qualities for a translator, self-claimed or not. 😄
@polijunkie_aus@xu_xiuzhong@ASPI_org Free English lesson:澳大利亚研究 in English is Australian Studies, not "Study". Studies means academic research while study is, well, what you should do. My Centre is obviously funded by my university. FYI we don't accept funding from foreign arms dealers or US dpt of defense etc
@Anne_MarieBrady@cetier1 Aieeya, so shrewd to link that GT quote with the visa story. But nota bene, if such insinuation means to frame me up, I don’t have an NZ visa. 哈哈 😁Sorry abt the disappointment, lol. BTW, it shld be "joint", not "joined".
@ajphelo Sure. Come back here in Shanghai and I'll take you to my favourite beer haunts. Remember Reeb? There is a Reeb beer garden with fair dinkum Shanghai IPA. 🍺
@ajphelo @Senator_Patrick @CliveCHamilton You never disappoint me, bro. China doesn't have to do anything. Washington has been rejecting Morrison's begging to Biden for extra Pfizer doses. US businesses have been rushing in to take lion's share of the Chinese market with Australia's exit. Let the Yankees do the job.😄
#Opinion: 50 years after Gough Whitlam's visit to China, it is imperative today’s politicians in Canberra should modestly learn his political sagacity. Australia's anti-China campaign has reaped in for itself nothing but economic and political losses. https://t.co/vAhvRq2A7n
@ajphelo@AJEnglish@jolleyma Yes, a bit tired indeed. We are at the beginning of the new semester with a lot of admin and teaching work. Just had a lovely evening with friends at a Bavarian restaurant at Xintiandi. You should come join us after COVID. Shanghai is now a very great beery city. 😄🍻
#Opinion: Human rights are being craftily manipulated by some Australian politicians to exert coercive pressure on other countries, yet domestically, outright breaches of their own people’s human rights have been horrendous.

@Fiskorama @alexbhturnbull@adam_ni Why did you think I was miserable? Am I right in thinking that you actually misread Australia's best poet in a very grotesque way?
@alexbhturnbull@adam_ni Aiyeea, one thing very certain is that with 26 January approaching, there is going to be a lot of Indigenous outcry about invasion, deprivation, and incarceration because “the ultimate men arrive”. History won’t be obliterated with a hasty change from “young” to “one”.
