Players that’ll improve this summer will be:
🏀Coachable
🏀Willing to go slow when learning new skills
🏀Willing to make mistakes
🏀Consistent
🏀Persistent
🏀Detailed
Players: Understand that playing hard is a skill. Playing with a motor & high energy is a skill. You don't have to be talented to play hard. You do have to be in great shape. It’s a choice that requires toughness & discipline. One thing is for sure, you will never win being soft!
Everyone says they want to be successful.
But are you truly willing to invest in success?
Are you willing to pay the price that success demands?
Are you willing to put in the grueling work to get there?
These are the critical questions you must ask and answer.

It’s crazy how far behind HS players are if they don’t get in the weight room before entering college
Another thing the Baylor guards proved on Monday night is that the weight room is YOUR FRIEND!
PLAYERS: If you want to increase your opportunities for success in games . . .
👉🏼 Run hard
👉🏼 Have fun
👉🏼 Do your job
👉🏼 Be disciplined
👉🏼 Control the controllables
👉🏼 Check your agendas at the door
👉🏼 Worry only about the controllables
👉🏼 Be ready to adapt & adjust on the fly
UCLA’s team 10 seconds after the shot. No wonder they just did what they did. This is TEAM. This is THE reason I coach. This is how you make dreams happen.
COACHES: Coaching isn't just a job. It’s a 24/7/365 commitment to positively impacting people, making a difference, and changing lives forever. It's a way of life that leads to improving other lives.
In my opinion, Something more players should work on is stepping through a trap .. far to many guards try to throw over top and it almost always gets tipped/stolen - especially if your undersized
Now, when you step through - BE STRONG WITH THE BALL.. if you aren’t, it’s a TO
Casually shooting around and expecting to be a great shooter is like reading the textbook for school but not taking any notes and expecting to do great on a test.. it’s better than nothing but won’t fully prepare you
What does just about every consistently good high school program have?
A great youth program
They are taught what they will do in HS (principles, concepts, etc)
They have good coaches
They value development over wins & losses
The HS head coach is involved as much as possible
Being a role player isn’t a bad thing - most players are role players
If it’s about getting more attention then it’s clearly beyond the game itself and more about you being jealous
Find your role. Accept your role. Star in your role.
If you do that, you’ll find success
Guards that want to play in college-ask yourself these ?’s
Can I throw a hook pass?
Can I throw a 1 handed pass off the dribble?
Can I get the ball to the elbow?
Can I throw a skip pass?
Can I enter the ball into the post?
*W/ BOTH hands
If you answered “no” to any, work on it
