LEADERSHIP IS LONELY
"If you are going to be a leader, youโre not going to please everybody. You have to hold people accountable. Even if you have that moment of being uncomfortable." (Kobe Bryant)

PLAYERS: How you do anything in life is how you do everything.
โฝ๏ธ Late for class
โฝ๏ธ Always has an excuse
โฝ๏ธ Never keeps their word
โฝ๏ธ Doesn't complete school work
โฝ๏ธ Disrespects teachers/coaches/parents
These players are rarely good teammates.

PARENTS: You can love your kids but still allow them to struggle a little bit in sports. That's part of the growing process. "Protecting" them now can limit their development as people. Educate, encourage, and equip. Be careful enabling them so much they're not prepared for life.
CAPTAINS: The most important person you should lead is YOU. You have to lead yourself positively before you can ever expect to lead anyone else. Don't expect others to follow your lead if you're not doing what you're supposed to do. Be an example to your teammates.

"You don't show up on game day and expect to be great. Greatness happens in practice. You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them." (Michael Jordan)
PLAYERS: Making excuses in the off-season about why you aren't in the gym or at training sessions will lead to making excuses during your season as to why you are on the bench.
PLAYERS: Before you question your playing time, honestly evaluate how you're using your practice time. Make sure that you're bringing energy, enthusiasm, and a team-first mentality to practice. Build good habits in practice. Find ways to be valuable. Make your teammates better.
PLAYERS: Your career will not last forever. Long after you hang up the uniform, your character will still be around. Who you are is much more important than your stats or records. The way you treat people will speak much louder than anything you did during your playing days.
