Hi @elonmusk… it’s day 27 ✨
Today I’m going to do things a little different, it’s going to be a bit long winded; but I want to make sure you know that Rooted Dreams is more than a passion project for me-it’s a life time calling.

In 2006, I was 15, my baby brother & I were placed in the foster care system. The only reason I got placed in a “traditional home” was because he & I were a packaged deal.. I remember sitting in the office waiting to be placed & the social worker mentioned I might have to go to a girls home.. Luckily, they found a family so we didn’t have to be separated in the system.

The couple who took us in was ultimately hoping to adopt my brother & made it clear I was not apart of their ideal picture. They had a group of siblings before us & they kicked out the eldest brother the day after he turned 18. I knew if we stayed, my fate would’ve been similar.

Eventually, the courts granted custodies to our biological fathers instead. We were separated by hundreds of miles. I stayed in Michigan until graduation, then moved to Alabama to care for our grandparents & my brother traveled the world with his father who was in the Air Force.
We didn’t hear from him for 13 years.

That scared, sad girl I was back then is exactly why I’m trying to build Rooted Dreams.

Because I know exactly how it feels to question if you belong. How your future can be decided for you when it isn’t even your fault. To be told you’re trouble when you’re only confused & terrified that you’re trapped in a situation that you didn’t even have a say over.

I want to build something different from a typical foster home-A place where teens can feel wanted, learn & grow. Where they can learn skills they need as they get older & gain confidence to build a life of their own.

Please help turn a very personal chapter in my life into a new beginning for someone else. 🌻💕

I take it you didn’t have a chance to read the “why” for my fundraiser… Yes, it’s a big ask & I don’t expect everyone to agree with it. The amount wasn’t chosen at random-It’s a calculation on the cost of property, start up costs, & then the rest will go into a fund to help those teens start their adulthood on a stronger footing. My husband & I will continue working & setting an example for them. It’s about creating a loving, stable home instead of yet another institutional setting so many foster teens experience. I’m aiming high because these teens deserve more than the bare minimum.
