Hockey ice is white because it's painted. Rinks freeze a thin base layer, spray it with white paint, then seal the paint under more ice. The league has done this since the 1940s so fans could follow a black puck. Then someone pointed a projector at it.
It turns out hockey had accidentally built the best movie screen in sports. Matte white paint under a sheet of clear ice diffuses light almost perfectly, and the whole surface is dead flat.
It's also enormous. An NHL rink is 200 feet by 85, about 17,000 square feet. A standard IMAX screen is around 4,000.
A show like this takes roughly a dozen 20,000-lumen projectors hung in the rafters, aimed nearly straight down so the beams don't glare off the ice or bleed into the seats. Software warps and blends all of them into one picture that fits the rink's rounded corners pixel for pixel. The Devils put about $1 million into their rig a decade ago, and arenas across the league copied it.
San Jose was always going to push this furthest. The Sharks have run the most famous entrance in hockey since the 90s, a 17-foot shark head lowered from the rafters with fog pouring out of its mouth and eyes glowing red. For thirty years the players skated out of the tank. Now the whole rink is the tank, and the sharks circling under their skates are just light bouncing off paint that was only ever there to make a puck visible.
This is why you go “all-in” when you have the best roster in the league, the best offensive coordinator on the planet and endless cap space.
Lions kept rolling over cap space trying to win their third Super Bowl before they won their first. Now they get nothing.
Over the years I was there our secondary wasn’t solid either🤣💯 but boy ole boy I’ll be lying if I say this secondary they have rn is hard to watch🤷🏾♂️
Someone actually ANIMATED the average Counter-Strike voice chat experience 😭😭
The screaming. The barking. The international insults.
This might be the most accurate representation of CS ever created. 💀
Absolutely incredible work by Zeeeko 🎬🔥
Going over the film, I'm more convinced than ever before that this is less a personnel issue and more a coaching issue. These guys are not put in good situations. I'll have a film study to show it tomorrow, but here's a sample.
This is the problem. The Lions send pressure, but Bryce Young doesn't have to hold the ball long enough for it to matter. There's an easy answer right around the sticks, the ball comes out immediately, and the rush never has a chance. Detroit has to make the QB hold the ball, but they'd rather just send the house, knowing that he's just got it out fast all night.
Lions had the sixth-best time to throw this week, but the 22nd-best time to pressure, because the Panthers just knew they'd blitz, and all they had to do was get the ball out fast. The Lions never adjust to that at any point
Reading about how Adam West took the role of BATMAN so seriously when the show was on the air, the writers would try to break West by creating the most insane gadget names for West to say with a straight face.
Long after the series ended, West confirmed and said "Three-Seconds-Flat-Bat-Vault-Combination-Unscrambler" was the term that nearly drove him insane lol
Autistic nfl coach whose team is up 34-7 in the Super Bowl but he is puzzled by one play the opponent keeps making. Then it comes to him. A genius counter move. He jots it down on his tablet but he is suddenly drenched in a Gatorade bath. The tablet is ruined and the plan is lost
