I remember this can very well.

At a time when Gaza was suffering from famine, and after hours of searching and asking around, I finally managed to buy this can for Leo.

I don’t remember how much I paid for it as much as I remember how I felt when I found it.

I was happy because I had managed to provide him with food for one more day.

Back then, Leo didn’t understand why food had become so scarce.
He didn’t understand war.
And he didn’t know why I sometimes came back empty-handed.

He only knew one thing…

That he was hungry.

And I did everything I could to make sure he didn’t go to sleep hungry.

Today, when I look at this photo, my heart breaks.

Because this wasn’t just a can of food.

It was one of my many attempts to save my friend from hunger.

I wasn’t looking for comfort or luxury for him.
I was only trying to keep him alive.

I tried.

I swear I tried.

But in the end, I lost Leo.

And it still hurts to think that something as simple as food could have saved his life.
