Matthew McConaughey argues that "Selfishness" is actually the Secret to True Religion and Long-Term Success
"There’s different between sentiment and sentimentality. And we all want to be humble, but nobody wants to be humiliated.
"Well, aren't they of the same word?
"My pastor told me, ‘Man, hey, you're pushing a large square rock up a very steep hill.’
But even biblically speaking, ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’
‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’
"That seems to me purely selfish."
"I believe real religion is extremely selfish."
If we believe that we'll be rewarded later, whether through karma or an afterlife, we're making sacrifices now for something we expect to receive in the future.
"Maybe even the sacrifices we make today to give our children a better life two decades from now are selfish."
"Isn't that more selfish than doing something only for yourself at the expense of your neighbor or your loved ones' future?"
Piers Morgan Challenges Guest Over His Support for Israel
Piers Morgan asks a direct question about Israel’s future in the West Bank and Gaza.
Piers Morgan: “Do you think Israel should take over the West Bank and Gaza?”
The guest responds by focusing on removing jihadis.
Piers pushes further, asking how many Palestinians the guest believes should be allowed to leave.
But rather than directly addressing the wider question, the guest repeats his position: “Jihadis got to go!”
The exchange highlights a difficult debate about Israel, Palestinian rights, security, and the future of these territories.
Is the guest answering Piers Morgan’s question, or avoiding the bigger issue?
Bill Maher: “We have to stop robbing tomorrow because we’re paying so much for yesterday.”
Maher argues that the current balance of government spending between older and younger Americans is becoming unsustainable.
He points to the rising cost of supporting retirees, the financial burden on younger workers, and the growing number of parents helping their adult children cover rent, groceries, healthcare, and other expenses.
He also questions whether some government benefit programs are being stretched beyond their original purpose, sparking a broader debate about public spending and personal responsibility.
His argument raises a difficult question: Is the current system putting too much financial pressure on younger generations, or are these programs essential support for people who need them?
Zelenskyy ready to Freeze War as Trump Pushes for Peace
Volodymyr Zelenskyy: “Right now, we have to freeze, and I think this is a real way to end this war.
We call it fair, or stop killing, like former President Trump called it: freeze and stop.
And of course, this is the minimum that we need from Russia today. Then, of course, we will go to the president and to Europeans, and we'll ask for security guarantees.”
KT McFarland: “Everybody's signaling right now.
When Zelenskyy talks to you in a hugely important interview, this is the first time he has said he would accept a peace deal frozen along the lines.
At the same time, Russia's signaling, right? Putin releases an American prisoner we wanted back for four years.
So they're both signaling they want to talk, and the one guy who can bring them to the table is Donald Trump.
Could we have peace the day after tomorrow? No. But we could have, for the first time…”
Michael Knowles Challenges a Pastor on Whether Christianity Condemns Homosexuality — Two Very Different Biblical Interpretations Emerge
Michael Knowles: Is LGBTQ identity part of Christianity, or does Christianity condemn it?
Rev. Brandan Robertson: I would argue that the Bible does not condemn loving, consensual same-sex relationships in the passages traditionally used against LGBTQ people.
LGBTQ people have always been part of the Christian church, and today they’re even leading churches, including mine.
Michael Knowles: But what about Genesis 19 and the story of Sodom and Gomorrah? Doesn’t that condemn LGBTQ behaviour?
Rev. Brandan Robertson: Ezekiel makes it clear that Sodom’s sin was mistreating foreigners and strangers, not same-sex relationships.
And if you read Genesis literally, the story involves men attempting to have sex with angels, which isn’t the same thing as homosexuality.
Michael Knowles: But they were male angels. And Jude 7 refers to Sodom and Gomorrah indulging in unnatural lust. Doesn’t that clarify what the real issue was?
Rev. Brandan Robertson: Another translation refers to “strange flesh.” I believe Jude is condemning sex between angels and humans, which also appears in other biblical passages.
That’s what I believe the story of Sodom and Gomorrah condemns.
Michael Knowles: Jonny, is that your interpretation?
Jonny Ardavanis: No. I’d frame this differently if I were speaking to someone struggling with same-sex attraction rather than debating a pastor defending a biblical interpretation I disagree with.
The Bible clearly forbids homosexuality, but it also promises forgiveness and cleansing to those who repent, just as it does for other sexual sins. Genesis 19 is one example.
Even Ezekiel 16, which mentions Sodom’s lack of hospitality, goes on to describe their actions as an abomination, a term frequently associated with sexual sin in Scripture.
The Bible’s overarching narrative begins with a marriage between a man and a woman and ends with a marriage.
Marriage is a central biblical metaphor, reflecting the complementary nature of a man and a woman in the marriage covenant. From this perspective, sexual activity outside marriage between a man and a woman is sinful.
Michael Knowles: I think there’s an important distinction here. We should perhaps frame this differently from the modern discussion of homosexuality, which can mean different things.
Someone might be born with a particular inclination or develop one early in life. But having an inclination doesn’t necessarily constitute sin. Acting on that desire is a different matter.
For example, someone might have a predisposition toward alcoholism, but that doesn’t mean they’ve committed the sin of drunkenness simply by having that predisposition.
The same distinction applies here: condemning a particular behaviour isn’t necessarily the same as condemning an entire group of people.
Steve Hilton has made abolishing California’s DMV a campaign promise, but Bill Maher wants to know how residents would obtain their driver’s licenses under his plan.
Bill Maher: “One of your campaign promises is to abolish the DMV.”
Steve Hilton: “Yes.”
Bill Maher: “Well, how do we get a driver’s license?”
Hilton argues that driver licensing services could be handled through existing county offices and online systems, rather than a standalone bureaucracy. He also proposes capping basic vehicle registration fees at $73 annually.
The discussion later turns to artificial intelligence, including potential job displacement, security risks, and the need for federal oversight and international cooperation.
Would abolishing the DMV improve government efficiency, or create more challenges for the public?
After 20 years of feeling controlled, she has decided she will not return to the marriage. But her husband still wants her back.
Caleb Hammer: “You want to get back with her?”
Husband: “Yes.”
Caleb Hammer: “You know she’s claiming that you have abused her. Do you have a response to that?”
Wife: “He controlled who I could hang out with, what I could buy, what I could drive, and even whether I could go to college.”
Husband: “I never stopped her from going to college.”
Caleb Hammer: “You didn’t really like it, though. Why?”
Husband: “She would come home late, and I had to wake up early for work.”
Caleb Hammer: “So what’s wrong with sleeping in a different room?”
The conversation raises difficult questions about control, trust, and personal freedom in a marriage.
Can a relationship survive when one partner feels controlled for years, while the other still wants to make things work?
