Fast, wide roads & slip lanes don't belong in mixed-use, connected communities. Good news: slip lanes are easy to fix! So are wide roads w/ on-street parking.

@TheNimbee opponents could hang up moving forward for about 2 years in court. However project is on such solid ground, would be dismissed once a court looks at it.
@EFM99092502 No. These 70 units are inclusionary zoning units. But these are more affordable with 10 units at 30% median family income rather than all at 60% MFI. Housing choice vouchers can also be used by voucher holders.
@lobstergrl No taxes for what? There is an additional HANTA affordable housing tax relief program that the developer is applying for. But that would be in addition to the IZ units commitment of 70 units which stay affordable for the life of the development approved in the PUD.
@rayyyynell DC is not far ahead - only one so far in West End. Another one in SW has a hotel above, if you count that. Props to Alexandria for doing before.
@cmoney_htx@Janeese4DC 70 affordable units: 10 @30% MFI & 60 @60% MFI. Term: life of the development per all IZ units. Also all 6 3-bedroom units affordable @ 30% MFI. MFI means median family income.
DC is looking at ways to make better use of fire stations by adding housing. Not easy to build housing on top of fire station but can be done!

Tomorrow: excited that we might finally decide to build a lot of housing around a much improved Takoma Metro station - after more than 20 years! 70 affordable homes, over 400 total homes, cafe-fronted plaza, usable greenspace, better bus waiting areas, walk & bike access.
This Thursday, the DC zoning commission will vote on whether to approve the Takoma Station planned unit development proposal (ZC 22-36). Ethan Goffman unpacks whatโs at stake: https://t.co/vbQYE6oOCk
@MDOTNews & @MDSHA design & manage these roads (NH Av. & Univ. Blvd). @MDSHA doesn't consider any part of PGC to have an "Urban Center," so priority stays with moving motor vehicles over safety & convenience for anyone else -- pedestrians, bus riders, bicyclists.
WaPo shows resistance to build dedicated affordable housing in Chevy Chase DC at civic site. We've joined with allies @Ward3Vision & @WIN_DC to demand follow thru on inclusive community plans & promises. https://t.co/eWXtAZsYta
โWe support affordable housing, butโฆโ Yeah, sure. The most telling line in this piece: โPeople arenโt feeling in control of the process.โ Affluent white Chevy Chase homeowners expect to be in control, to be deferred to at all times. https://t.co/h6IQnBu5FC
