An unusual incident took place in Round 2 of the Super Rapid & Blitz during the game between D Gukesh and Hans Niemann.
After making his move, Gukesh accidentally knocked several pieces over on the board. According to the current regulations, Hans was awarded an extra minute on the clock.
What makes the story even more ironic is that Hans had asked about this exact scenario during the technical meeting before the event.
Many fans also remembered a similar incident involving Magnus Carlsen at the World Rapid & Blitz Championship in Doha, where the rules were different and Magnus was actually forfeited.
So what do you think the rule should be in situations like this?🤔
• Add 1 minute to the opponent’s clock?
• Immediate forfeit?
• Something else?
