Walmart has stopped advertising on X, with their spokesperson noting: "We aren't advertising on X as we've found other platforms to better reach our customers."

Brands like Apple, Disney & Warner Bros Discovery also dropped out.

But here's what I don't get:

If this was really about ads appearing next to sensitive content, why only back away from advertising on X? Research has shown other platforms have many issues with sexually explicit content, hate content, scams, etc. This is not an X issue, it's a social media issue.

But X is the one being singled out.

It's not because the advertisers don't want want their content associated with the content, it's because they think being associated with X specifically hurts their reputation. It's not about some moral stand, it's about corporate virtue signalling to the public.

If they really care about the content itself, they'd stop advertising on social media in general, on ALL platforms. Or just admit that they don't care as long as they make money. Both positions are fine, but this one is riddled with hypocrisy.
