@BodieCabiyo raises a really important point - forests only offset carbon if the biomass remains intact. Fires, decomposing trees release carbon. How does one guarantee the offsets companies are reliable and durable?
Welp, one of the biggest carbon offset projects is burning. The Colville IFM project represents over 14M tons of carbon offsets, or ~6% of all credits in the CA compliance market.
