Any Zionist who believes that G-d granted this land to the Jewish people should naturally embrace those who dedicate themselves to studying His Torah and acknowledge that G-d’s miracles will continue to sustain us. And if you're a Zionist who doesn’t believe in G-d, you might want to pause and ask yourself: What exactly are you doing in Israel in the first place?

That said, I understand why many secular Zionists feel it's only fair for the Hareidim to share in the burden of military service. However, in times of war, there is nothing more critical than unity. Consider the days of King Ahab: despite the Israelites' sins, they triumphed because they were united. In contrast, during the reign of King Hezekiah, even though Torah study flourished, the lack of unity led to repeated defeats.

A healthy balance is essential. Just as it’s incumbent upon Torah scholars to respect the sacrifices made by those who serve on the battlefield, so too must the warriors acknowledge and respect the sacrifices scholars make in their relentless pursuit of Torah study. Only through mutual respect and unity can we achieve the strength to face the challenges before us.
