Ux learning 101 ๐ฎโ๐จ
In my previous post, I mentioned how I did quick searches while working on the TEFEM user research challenge.
Hereโs one of them

The seven essential

We held our closing ceremony on Tuesday; after 3 weeks of virtual sessions with mentors.
But that's not the end. She Code Africa will be opening registration for cycle 2 soon. I'll keep you informed.
Tell a woman to tell a woman. ๐
#shecodeafrica#uxdesign#tech
I got my badge for participating. ๐คญ
Thanks to She Code Africa, I got the confidence I needed to share my work and I also gained new insights.
Most of the questions I had regarding UX design and scaling were answered.
Now it's officially over.
โข Having or setting a clear goal is one thing, putting it into action is key.
โข Your work doesnโt have to be perfect before you can start sharing.
She Code Africa Mentorship wrap-up. ๐
(The final week)
Key things I learnt as a mentee:
โข Start small.
โข Volunteer as often as you can to gain experience; work with others who are at the same level as you to share and grow together.
โช๏ธ Reading a book on design; 'Show your work' by Austin Kleon, and,
โช๏ธ Collaborating on a project as a group.
Anyway, in the image above, you can see a healthcare design I replicated. ๐ค

@SheCodeAfrica Mentorship Program Wk 2 ๐
For the first session this week:
ยค Had a recap of the previous session and an introduction of the third mentee.
ยค Our discussion was based on:
โช๏ธ Websites to get design inspiration from,
โช๏ธ Optimising our LinkedIn profile and CVs,
how to go above beginner/intermediate level in design.
It also touched on openness to learning other skills such as low-code development as we level up on our design skills.
The screen above is a task we were givenโreplicate.
The goal: To become confident in sharing our work

I attended the first virtual session with my mentor @OziomaSarah alongside 2 mentees.

We had our onboarding session yesterday, and there are four areas of learning. I'm in the UI/UX design track. ๐ค
This is a great opportunity to finally close the gap in my mind. ๐ฅน

I got accepted into the @SheCodeAfrica Mentorship Programme. ๐ฅณ
This is not a regular bootcamp or training programme; the mentorship runs for 3 weeks with 2 virtual sessions per week.
This allows for quick completion of purchases, bookings, and other such functions while preventing task inflation.
I hope you learned something new. ๐ค

UX Law: Parkinsonโs Law
(Pareto Principle in previous posts)
'Any task will inflate until all of the available time is spent.' ๐งต
How to Implement in UX
โข Limit the time it takes to complete a task to what users expect itโll take.
โข Use features such as autofill to save the user time when providing critical information within forms.
This can be really useful on projects with tight timescales or small budgets.
I hope you learned something new. ๐ค

UX Law: The Pareto Principle
(Paradox of the Active User in previous posts)
The Pareto principle states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. ๐งต
What this means in/for UX
Focus the majority of effort on the areas that will bring the largest benefits to most users.
It enables you to focus your research on the things that matter most and ensure that you protect these things when you come to revising the user experience.
๐Make guidance accessible throughout the product experience and design it to fit within the context of use so that it can help these active new users no matter what path they choose to take (e.g. tooltips with helpful information).

UX Law: Paradox of the Active User
(Occam's Razor in previous posts)
Users never read manuals but start using the software immediately.
Users just want to get things done without reading the documentation up front. ๐งต
E.g. Skipping instructions page or 'Terms and Conditions' page in a design without reading through first.
What this is.
๐If time is spent to first learn how the product or software works, errors will be reduced greatly.

UX Law: Occam's Razor
(Miller law in previous posts)
It states that among competing hypotheses that predict equally well, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected.
In basic terms: โthe simplest solution is almost always the best.โ
๐งต
In UX design ๐
โข Occam's razor focus is to reduce complexity in a design and make it as simple as possible while still maintaining the complete function of the design.
โข Eliminate unnecessary elements without affecting the overall function of the design.
