Hate to agree, but it’s true.
You can’t get to that level without sacrificing something significant.
Either your sanity, your family, your love life, or something else that matters deeply to you. Something has to give.
Late last month, I successfully passed my Chemical Engineering Doctoral Candidacy Exam (DCE) at the University of Michigan.
God has been truly faithful, and I am deeply thankful for His unending grace. I am grateful to have reached this first major milestone on my PhD journey.
On my flight this morning, an older man greeted me with "The best of men." I smiled and greeted him, and we shook hands. It turned out we were seat mates.
We gisted throughout the flight. When we landed, I asked his origin and he said Delta. I asked his village and he mentioned my mom's village. I told him I was from there. He asked my maiden name and I told him. His eyes lit up in familiarity. I asked his family name and he told me. I told him my mom would know his family because they all know themselves. I called my mom and told her somebody wanted to greet her. It didn't take her 2 mins to identify his family.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I've been gisting with my second cousin all through the flight. My mom and his mom are first cousins. We've exchanged contact. I'll go and block him at his office next week. Life 😊

and if you were like me a few years ago and feel too brain rotted to do an hour.
start with a 15 minute timer.
everytime your brain wants to pick your phone up or switch to something over stimulating. take a breath, acknowledge the urge, and focus back to your task.
do this again and again until the timer is up.
this is how you train your brain to focus for long amounts of time.
Everywhere I go, from petrol stations to spas and even parking attendants, I’m given a personal account number for payment. It’s only when I refuse that they suddenly provide the business account.
I wonder how business owners are surviving in Nigeria.
