New site report: The DPRK’s Chemical Facilities: Aoji-ri Area: Site Profile 6.
Drawing on open source intelligence and satellite imagery analysis, this report examines North Korea’s chemical facilities in Aoji-ri and their potential role within the DPRK’s wider chemical weapons landscape.
The study assesses the operational status and production capabilities of the 7th July Chemical Complex and 21st July Explosives Plant, finding no current evidence of active chemical weapons production. While some infrastructure could support the synthesis of certain chemical warfare agents, significant technical gaps and signs of re-purposing suggest a reduced military role for the sites.
This is an important resource for defence and security professionals tracking developments in North Korea’s chemical industry and regional security dynamics.
