Plenty needs to be understood about RIC (Russia, India, China) which is at the heart of BRICS - which troubles Trump given the fact that the US has US 37 trillion dollars debt & China has sold US 500 billion dollars US Treasury bonds. And BRICS top agenda point is to displace the US dollar.
RIC was a global geopolitical idea of Russian leader Primakov. China saw the global geoeconomic opportunity in it. RIC was the reason why Putin's EEU vision got aligned with Xi's BRI vision to bring about once-in-century global change.
India's initial contribution to RIC was by way of its huge population (hence market). Manmohan Singh, an economist, realized the importance of RIC. For this reason, there was a conscious understanding between India & China that neutrality on the border issue was necessary for success of bilateral agreements. All three nations understood the importance of RIC even when the world was unipolar.
Then Modi came with his unidimensional @DrSJaishankar incapable to seeing beyond America. So, at the time when the world became multipolar (with 3 great powers, US, China, Russia), Jaishankar failed to accept that America was in decline vis-a-vis China & BRICS had surpassed G-7.
The Modi government chose the US over China. RIC got limited to seeking Russia's help to ensure that India-China crisis-prone ties did not escalate to hot war. Thus, Modi & his bright spark made wrong geopolitical choice - for which India will suffer long after these two are gone!
