A truly enchanting performance last night at @beirutchants, thanks to the talent & generosity of🇨🇭soprano @chiaraskerath and @Helio__Vida, director of the Basel "OperAvenir" & pianist.
👇🏼Here is a glimpse of this moment out of time🎶✨
Common practice in the day, Vivaldi composed the arias for the good character, and “barrowed” arias for the villans! This aria is sung by the villan Irene.
“Sposa son disprezzata” from Vivaldi’s pasticcio “Bajazet”
“Sposa son disprezzata” was used in Vivaldi’s pasticcio “Bajazet,” and it is sometimes erroneously attributed to him, but it is actually by Geminiano Giacomelli!
✨ ARMIDA ✨
One of my favorite roles. The power, the magic, the coloratura. 😍
Armida in Rinaldo by Handel @BeauneFestival with @LesAccents , conducted by Thibault Noally
Fetonte was the twenty-sixth of the twenty-seven operas that Jommelli composed for Duke Karl Eugen, and was premièred on 11 February 1768 at the newly built court theatre in Ludwigsburg.
“Ombre che tacite qui sede” is sung here by Chiara Skerath in 2018.
The sound of Donna Elvira’s breaking heart…as only #Mozart can write.

Although I wouldn’t sing the full role of Ariodante, since I am a soprano and not a mezzo, I had a lot of fun singing “Dopo notte” in this concert.
Anyone want to try to count all the notes in the aria? 😂
Handel seemed to love giving us a lot of notes to sing! 😂
Whether it is a beautiful slow aria, or one full of coloratura like this, I love singing baroque music!
Laurence Equilbey guided me and the Insula orchestra in this concert captured for @ARTEconcertFR .

I have now sung Mélisande several times - including most recently at the @festival_aix this summer! - and this is something that I always try to remember. This role and music is so unique, and a I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to perform Debussy’s masterpiece!
Want to hear me sing the role? You can listen to the recording - also featuring the amazing Stanislas de Barbeyrac and Alexandre Duhamel - on your preferred streaming platform! 🫶
#operalife can be pretty crazy. 😂
I loved recording “Crudeli, ahimè, che fate?” from “Sofonisba” by Traetta with @TheMozartists, conducted by Ian Page, and screaming like Sofonisbas (the character) would…it was a great stress reliever!

As I mentioned in my last post, opera can be entertaining and/or make people reflect and their choices and society.
Singing Mélisande in “Pelléas et Mélisande” at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence was a special experience in many ways, including how the production presented ideas
