2015-2020 Canada emigration wave from Nigeria favoured certain demographics or categories of people. I'll mention 2:

🔹Architects -the smoother path to professional licensure in Nigeria requires a Masters degree, causing architecture graduates to typically graduate with a masters degree in their 20s. Most even do masters before they do their NYSC. Those that created EE profiles easily got high scores for Education.

🔹2008-2012 era UK masters returnees. Many of them that I know relocated to Canada in that japa wave

The focus on category-based draws has stopped this. You will sit with your masters, and in your 20s or early 30s today and you will be advised to learn French -Unless you are in healthcare.

Aside the banter, there are questions about how we would perceive things we allow when they are taken to their full extent.

It is easier to say "call me by my first name" if you are 40 and the people around are younger but are in their 30s (I feel uncomfortable when someone just a few years younger calls me 'Sir').

Taken to its full extent, would it be OK if you are 60+ and those addressing you are in their 20s?

There is a Nigerian pastor that said it is disrespectful to call 'Jesus' without saying 'Lord Jesus'

So he and his members often say 'The Lord Jesus' and in prayer, "in the name of the Lord Jesus"

At least this makes more sense than what he said about 5G that year 😂

My primary school classmate
childhood friend -Both friend to me and family friend (our parents were friends).
Born the same year -we are age mates.

But he is now a titled big man (by Nigerian, Igbo men standards).

I call him and address him by his childhood nickname. He stopped me and corrected that I need to address him properly "I am Oba..." 😂

These are freaking English customs brought to Africa via colonialism.

Our ancestors called each other by relational names - except for aristocrats.
