And whenever the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the lyre and played it with his hand; so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

Most Catholics do not know about St. Dymphna the patron saint of:
•Mental illness
•Anxiety and depression
•Emotional disorders
•Nervous disorders
Dymphna was the daughter of a pagan Irish king, Damon, and a devout Christian queen. Her mother raised her in the Catholic faith, and Dymphna consecrated her life to Christ, taking a vow of chastity at a young age.
When her mother died, her father spiraled into grief and madness, demanding to remarry a woman exactly like his late wife. When no one could match her, he fixated on Dymphna, whose resemblance to her mother led him into a deranged desire to marry her — a grave sin and violation of natural law.
⚔️ Martyrdom
King Damon tracked her down. When Dymphna refused his advances and reaffirmed her vow to Christ, he flew into a violent rage and beheaded her himself.
Fr. Gerebernus was also martyred.
🌹 Legacy and Miracles
Soon after their burial, the people of Gheel began reporting miraculous healings, especially of those with mental illness and emotional distress who prayed at her tomb.
By the Middle Ages, Gheel became a renowned pilgrimage site and sanctuary for the mentally ill, where the sick were not institutionalized, but welcomed into family homes — a revolutionary model of community-based mental health care that persists even today in Gheel.

Every human person is planned and willed by God to enter into communion with Him, with others, and with creation. Human dignity does not depend on a person’s abilities, wealth, or position in life, nor on the right or wrong choices made. Instead, it is a gift that precedes and transcends each person, endowed by God as an expression of His unfailing love. #MagnificaHumanitas #GeneralAudience
Each person is tempted when dragged away by their own evil desire... desire once conceived gives birth to sin, and sin, when fully grown, gives birth to death.
