Since 2020, 211 schools across Paris have piloted “school streets”— temporary closures to motor traffic during drop-off and pick-up.
22 have been developed into permanent car-free spaces; offering a glimpse into a future that prioritizes children’s health, safety, and happiness.
2022 figures for road fatalities are on course to be the highest since 2016.
Collisions not only claim lives, they irreparably & traumatically change others & affect those families involved.
We all need to be aware of just how fragile our lives are & take extra care on the road

One of the MOST IMPORTANT THINGS your city could do to become more healthy, sustainable, livable, affordable, equitable, resilient, etc — forget about “balancing” transportation modes, & commit to PRIORITIZING walking/rolling, biking, public transit. HT @dublincycling for graphic
In many ways, cars are like water, which—if given the opportunity—will flow through or collect in every square inch of your city’s public realm.
But much like water, if your planners seal the cracks and increase the temperature, they will eventually evaporate from your streets.

With 58% of all trips nationally made by bike, teenagers are among the biggest beneficiaries of Dutch infrastructure.
From a young age, they enjoy the freedom of a driver’s license; without the added stress, cost and danger.

Remember this one? Before & after of a brain after a 20 minute walk — why walking to work, or school, or just to get the intellectual juices flowing, is linked to better creative & intellectual performance. Among MANY other benefits to you and to society.
