Parliament has passed the Energy Sector Levies Amendment Bill, 2026, increasing the fuel oil levy from GH¢0.24 to GH¢1.93 per litre and extending the Road Fund Levy to fuel oil.

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson says the move will curb abuses in the fuel subsidy regime, with companies paying the levy upfront at importation before receiving refunds if eligible.
