🧵Growing up Wog in Australia
My mum migrated to Australia in 1972, I was 7 years old when we landed here from Egypt. At school I was called wog and made to feel like I didn’t belong, like I was stupid because I couldn’t speak English. It didn’t matter I spoke French, Italian,

Instead of the Reserve Bank reducing inflation by increasing the amount of money we have to give to the banks, why not increase the amount of money we have to pay into our own superannuation accounts? #NewApproach#OurMoney#auspol https://t.co/n4zAHXPZl4
@AvidCommentator Georgina is right - Its tough for working parents, I was able to do it as a sole parent post divorce because my parents helped me look after my kids - otherwise the cost of childcare was insane. No way I could get ahead without my parents. Not many people are so lucky
@TimWilsonMP@peter_tulip Absolutely need to shift this conversation - the number of Australians retiring with a mortgage or as renters is exponentially increasing with no solutions on the horizon - this is a great solution to an intractable problem
“There’s no avoiding the scale of our responsibility – or the cost of inaction,” says @AlboMP, the leader of a government that readily and repeatedly approves new, or extends exisiting, fossil fuel projects. 🤷♂️ 1/2 #duplicitous#climate#auspol https://t.co/nuHIjpJwhj

How’s Intergenerational equity going @JEChalmers
Housing security is the biggest determinant of retirement security - so think about that.
My PhD is looking at predicting risk in retirement for younger generations, it’s not looking great

Australia’s political lobbying rules are broken. Nearly two-thirds of registered lobbyists in Canberra are former government representatives - former ministers, advisers or party officials. These are people who’ve spent years building relationships and gathering knowledge on the public purse, and are now able to sell access to the highest bidder.
Next month, I’ll introduce my National Lobbying Act as part of an effort to put a stop to this and to clean up politics. It would create a lobbyist register capturing both in-house corporate lobbyists and industry associations, while also closing the revolving door through enforceable bans on former ministers cashing in on their contacts.
Australians don’t send politicians to Canberra to protect big coal, big gambling, or the big banks. They send us there to stand up for our communities and act in their best interests. It’s time to clean up politics.
David Pocock fires up on the $10K donation scheme running since 1999 just to get the PM's ear, reserved for people with ‘money & power’
“If you have cash, you can get access”
“A nurse who’s lost their brother to a gambling addiction…she doesn’t have $10K”
What a crock. Scrap it
