‼️Violent Repeat Offender Captured in Clearfield Utah After Shooting a Woman in Her Chest

Devon Hakeem Hinton, 30, is charged with attempted murder after shooting a woman in Murray, Utah.

According to police, the latest case began early Sunday morning when officers responded to a shooting near 622 E. 4500 South in Murray after midnight. New high-density housing can be observed from Google Street View.

Officers found a woman lying on the sidewalk with a GUNSHOT WOUND TO HER CHEST. She was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in stable condition.

According to Hinton’s booking affidavit, the victim and two other women had stopped in the parking lot to meet Hinton. After an argument, the victim got into her vehicle to leave. Police allege Hinton shot her in the chest before she could drive away.

A woman identified in the affidavit as Hinton’s girlfriend allegedly identified him as the shooter and provided information that ultimately led police to Clearfield.

Officers located the vehicle at a residence near 900 South and 1500 East, where Clearfield police issued a shelter-in-place for the surrounding area.

During a search, officers spotted what appeared to be a person hiding in the rear hatch area of a Honda Pilot parked inside the garage. After the person refused to respond to commands, officers deployed less-lethal munitions and pepper balls resulting in Hinton fleeing onto the roof of the apartment building where he refused to surrender during prolonged negotiations.

Hinton was eventually taken into custody and booked for investigation of attempted murder, prohibited firearm possession, witness tampering, improper discharge of a firearm and interfering with police.

The arresting officer noted that Hinton has a criminal history and is prohibited from possessing firearms.

CRIMINAL HISTORY//

Hinton has a LONG criminal history in Utah including both state and federal convictions.

Federal court records show that Hinton pleaded guilty in 2017 to Hobbs Act robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. He was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Utah to approximately 7 years in federal prison followed by 3 years of supervised release.

When Hinton later sought early release from federal prison in 2020, the judge specifically pointed to his history of violence. The court stated that his record included juvenile offenses involving fighting and assaulting a police officer, as well as an adult conviction for assaulting a police officer. The judge rejected Hinton’s argument that he no longer posed a danger to the community and denied his request for compassionate release.

Then, in 2023, Hinton was charged in Utah’s 3rd District Court in an extremely disturbing alleged armed home-invasion and hostage case.

Prosecutors charged Hinton and three other men with SIX counts of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary and FIVE counts of aggravated robbery, all first-degree felonies.

According to the charging documents in that case, the group allegedly held a woman at gunpoint because they believed her mother had stolen property from them. One of the men allegedly pointed a firearm at the woman’s head while she was told she could not leave until her mother returned.

Hinton allegedly entered the room and told the woman that it was going to “get ugly” and threatened to come for her family.

After the woman was allowed to leave and went to another residence, prosecutors alleged that Hinton and the other three men, all armed with handguns, showed up there about 30 minutes later. Five people inside were allegedly ordered to surrender their phones and empty their pockets while the armed men took wallets, cash and other property.
