Nigeria is facing a troubling contradiction.
What type of country are we trying to bequeath for our children?
The same lawmakers who have proposed a fine of ₦10 million and up to two years in prison for dual political party membership have simultaneously removed certificate forgery, age falsification, and false declarations as grounds for challenging an election in a tribunal. This is in direct contradiction to the provisions of the Constitution of Nigeria (1999, as amended).
This situation raises a fundamental question about the priorities of our political system.
In any serious democracy, the gravest offense in public life is deceiving the people to gain power. Submitting false documents, falsifying one’s age, forging certificates, and making dishonest declarations to electoral authorities are among the most serious offenses in any democracy. Such actions not only lead to automatic disqualification but also warrant criminal prosecution.
Yet today, our electoral system seems more focused on protecting political structures than on upholding the truth.
There is no justification for prioritizing punishment for party alignment over punishing false certificates, forgery, and other forms of deception in the pursuit of public office.
Laws should strengthen democracy, not weaken it. They should promote ethical leadership rather than lower standards for those who aspire to govern.
A nation cannot rise above the integrity of its leaders. If we truly want a better Nigeria, our laws must defend truth, character, competence, and accountability. We cannot continue to tolerate criminal behavior.
A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO
The attention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been drawn to reports concerning the recent decision of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria in an appeal filed by the National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David Mark, in connection with the ongoing suit instituted against the party leadership at the Federal High Court of Nigeria.
Having carefully studied the judgment, we wish to state unequivocally that the Court of Appeal did not determine the substantive dispute regarding the leadership of the ADC. The case challenging the emergence of Senator David Mark as National Chairman and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary is still pending before the Federal High Court and has not yet been heard or decided on its merits.
Importantly, the Court of Appeal did not grant any relief in favour of the plaintiff, nor did it issue any order affecting the leadership structure of the party. On the contrary, the court ordered that parties should maintain the status quo, meaning that the current state of affairs within the party should remain unchanged pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Members of the ADC are therefore advised not to panic or be misled by misinterpretations of the judgment. The ruling of the Court of Appeal is purely procedural and does not affect the legitimacy or tenure of the current national leadership of the party.
The ADC remains united and focused despite the antics of anti-democratic forces bent on imposing a one-party rule on Nigeria.

🌟 Welcome to the ADC Party Youth Forum! 🌟
Family, it’s so encouraging to see how quickly we’re growing — over 35 members in just a few days!
That speed alone shows the passion we all share to see a working Nigeria.
Let’s be clear, this platform is not for promoting any individual candidate (at least not until the party leadership, through whatever process they choose, produces a substantive candidate).
But as youths, we can and must be:
• A voice for credible and transparent candidate selection
• Advocates for the continuous inclusion of youths in leadership positions
• Mobilizers who encourage more young Nigerians to join and participate
Our vision is bold: to be the biggest, most vibrant, and most influential youth forum of any political party in Nigeria. It’s no small task but together, we will achieve it.
Please remember:
• Follow the community rules
• Be respectful to one another
• Keep discussions issue-focused, not personal

PRESS STATEMENT African Democratic Congress (ADC) August 15, 2025
ADC to FG: Listen to What Okonjo-Iweala is Not Saying
-Party Says WTO Boss’s Comment is about Suffering Nigerians not Meaningless Stability.
The ADC has criticized the Federal Government for ignoring the real message in the recent comments by the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on the state of the Nigerian economy, choosing instead to celebrate the headlines.
According to the party, government officials and their media surrogates have amplified only one soundbite from her remarks, where she credited the administration for “stabilizing the economy,” while deliberately ignoring her more serious call for urgent measures to grow the economy and establish social safety nets for millions of Nigerian families suffering the negative impacts of the government’s reforms.
In a press statement by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, the ADC noted that the effusive celebration of the headlines reflects a government in desperate need of validation, rather than one focused on the job at hand.
The full statement read:
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s recent comments on President Tinubu and the Nigerian economy have been seized upon by government officials and their media allies as if their scandalous implementation of hard reforms, which have condemned the majority of Nigerians to absolute poverty and destroyed millions of jobs, had received endorsement by the oracle herself. This is not correct.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala knows that a stable economy is one that is growing in real terms, led by jobs and productivity. She knows that a stable economy is one that is able to guarantee minimum standards of living for the people. She knows that economic stability that leaves the majority in grinding poverty is meaningless.
Therefore, what she’s really saying — which the government has chosen to ignore — is that the economy is not growing, jobs are not being created, and too many people are suffering as a direct consequence of President Tinubu’s ill-conceived and badly implemented reforms. These are the issues she wanted the government to address.
