I was given my name by the Iroquois Nation many hundreds of years ago. By 1660 my name was printed on maps by the Europeans as they accepted the Native name which means Beautiful waters.
In 1867 the Canadian government decided to use my name for their providence.
Simply put, Dolly Parton was an American original. She was an inspiration to millions. She was a relentless advocate for women and for equality. Through her Imagination Library, she placed the gift of reading into the hands of millions of children because she understood literacy is the foundation of opportunity.
But perhaps most importantly, Dolly treated everyone with kindness and respect. She lived her values with a flair and vitality for life that was uniquely her own. She was a trailblazer in every sense of the word, and she will be missed by millions around the world.
Jill and I are keeping her family, her friends, and her millions of fans in our prayers.
God bless Dolly Parton.
Hurling F-bombs at an 85-year-old scientist who wonโt fight back doesnโt make you tough. Staying silent after your own daughter accused Rep. Max Miller of holding a gun to her head, pushing her against a wall, and fracturing your granddaughterโs collarbone makes you a coward.
Honoured and grateful for @TheEmmys nomination for RAFA.
This documentary tells a very personal part of my journey, and none of it would have been possible without everyone who was part of it.
Thank you to the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, to @netflix, Skydance, and to the entire team behind this project. This nomination belongs to all of you ๐๐ป
