. @TheRoot gave their opinion about Whoopi Goldberg comments about JAY-Z defending the fact that Beyoncé never won Album of the Year at the #GRAMMYs
Whoopi said on her show The View that Beyoncé has 32 trophies and that victories are subjective, and those Beyoncé’s trophies are not for one thing, so it doesn’t matter if they give the AOTY trophy to Beyoncé
“Whoopi has forgotten more about winning and losing awards than I will ever know. However, as her co-host Sunny Hostin explained, there’s a part of this continued disrespect that feels like they’re saying she’s not the pop star the powers that be want. Choosing Harry Styles and Taylor Swift over her makes it clear she’s allowed to be awesome, as long as she sticks to the R&B and Dance/Electronic categories.
Her nominations for Album, Record and Song of the Year say that The Recording Academy is willing to acknowledge her talent and impact, but she and her collaborators won’t be fully rewarded for it.
I understand what Whoopi is saying here, but Jay-Z was making a statement to this organization that its disrespect hasn’t gone unnoticed. When you combine that with the fact that SZA was the most nominated artist of the night, but won three awards in R&B categories, a message about where Black women stand in the music industry is being sent.
Jay-Z is letting them know that just because we seem unbothered, it doesn’t mean we don’t see the game they’re playing.” —TheRoot.
“…and the average taxpayer spends $1,087 per year on weapons contractors compared to just $270 for K-12 education.”
Sad. Frustrating. And no signs of change.

I didn’t realize that the only reason the education system functions is because of the unpaid labor of educators and that so many teachers pay for and beg for their resources… until I became a teacher.
@NicholasFerroni We do this all the time! Substitutes or no substitutes. At some charters schools this is not within our contract so we become obligated to cover lunch duties when a breaks are an industry standard. #ridiculous
@RWScholars This became transformational work for both teachers and students it was exactly what we needed at the time. Time heal, love, and connect. All while embedding PBL that brought in student identities, 3rd grade skills, intellect, and criticality. And above all joy!!! @GholdyM
@MarilaXicana Language shapes your experience. I noticing… and I’m wondering…. Are some of my favorite frames to use with students. “I’m noticing you’re really focused on building a friendship right now” is one my favorite
