I just learned this morning that Bryan Eze qualified for the International Economics Olympiad in China to represent Nigeria, but the Ministry of Education said that there is no money to sponsor him.

They approached the Ebonyi State Government for support and the government said that they are not interested. So he missed it.

I became curious after he won the Sterling Bank National Online Maths Quiz yesterday.

This is heartbreaking.

Temitope Ajayi, your post reeks of arrogance and a dangerous misunderstanding of democracy.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not an absolute monarch. He is a public servant. He does not own Nigeria, and no citizen or institution needs his permission to speak about matters that affect the lives of Nigerians…..you guys need to get this basic fact into your heads.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria is not seeking favours from @officialABAT. It represents millions of Nigerians whose voices deserve to be heard.

If anything, @officialABAT is constitutionally answerable to the Nigerian people, and the bishops have every moral and civic right to speak publicly about governance, especially when millions are trapped in poverty, insecurity, hunger, and hopelessness.

It is ironic that you accuse Cardinal Onaiyekan of “thinking too highly” of himself when your entire article elevates @officialABAT above public accountability.

In a democracy, there is no “clerical privilege” that forbids speaking the truth after meeting a public official. Public office does not create a sacred confidentiality shield against legitimate public scrutiny.

You argue that @officialABAT has access to intelligence reports, newspapers, and advisers. Yet none of those reports can erase the daily reality Nigerians are living.

Intelligence reports do not fill empty stomachs. Security briefings do not bring back kidnapping victims. Economic statistics do not reduce the suffering of over 130 million Nigerians living in multidimensional poverty.

Your suggestion that Nigerians should simply and blindly trust the @officialABAT because he receives classified briefings is precisely the mindset democracy rejects. Leaders are judged by outcomes, not by the volume of intelligence they receive.

The bishops did exactly what responsible national leaders should do: they confronted power with the reality experienced by ordinary Nigerians.

Cardinal Onaiyekan merely clarified what transpired after your government attempted to spin the meeting into a public relations victory. Correcting a misleading narrative is not an abuse of privilege, it is a service to the truth.

The real overreach is not Cardinal Onaiyekan’s interview. The real overreach is believing that a presidential aide can dictate who is permitted to speak after meeting a public servant.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu serves Nigerians, not the other way around. That includes the Catholic bishops, civil society, traditional rulers, labour unions, the media, and every ordinary citizen. Democracy demands accountability, not unquestioning reverence.

The Catholic Conference Bishops and Cardinal Onaiyekan deserve a public apology from you, @TheTope_Ajayi for this insult.

When I was in Kuje Prison, I met Haruna Garba Gololo, who was sent there by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He had been granted bail for nearly three weeks but was still unable to meet the bail conditions.

He’s spent several weeks in prison before being granted bail.

I also met David Nwokorie, who was arrested and detained by the Nigeria Police Force following a messy breakup with Genevieve Opara, the daughter of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hilary Opara. Last week, when Justice Rita Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court granted David bail after he had spent close to four months in prison, he was required to present a Level 16 officer and a colonel in the Nigerian Army as sureties. these are almost impossible bail conditions.

Even the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who is complaining of wrongful imprisonment of 93% of current inmates dragged a critic, Emorioloye Owolemi, before the Federal High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, over alleged cyberstalking, and the man languished in prison for months.

I was sent to prison by Tinubu.

There are 817 awaiting-trial inmates in Kuje out of a total prison population of 1,115, with 47 of them diagnosed with tuberculosis.
