He's ended the carbon tax, reduced interprovincial trade barriers (with your support), fast tracked initiatives like Alberta's pipeline and LNG/mining projects, launched Build Canada, reduced temporary resident permits, raised defense spending, started trade diversification, led "Canada Strong" in US trade negotiations, created the Middle Powers concept and thereby swung the EU toward more support for Canada, diversified weapons acquisitions (planes, early warning, submarines). Basically, Carney has move FAST. Which is why you've lost your majority.

Rod, tariffs hurt. Nobody serious denies that.

But blaming Trump for Canada’s entire economic mess is political baby food. Canada had weak productivity, massive deficits, housing distortion, anti-development laws, carbon-cost layering, and collapsing business investment before this latest tariff mess hit.

StatsCan says exports of passenger cars and light trucks were hit by U.S. tariffs, yes. But the same report also points to falling business investment, weak residential investment, lower final domestic demand, and a second straight quarterly contraction. That is not “Trump did it.” That is a fragile economy getting exposed.

Canada is now in a technical recession after Q4 2025 and Q1 2026 both contracted on an annualized basis. Reuters reported the Q1 decline was 0.1% after a revised 1% drop in Q4. That is not Scheer lying. That is reality knocking on the door with steel-toed boots.

And Carney is not some innocent bystander who just wandered into the room holding a clipboard. He is keeping Trudeau’s anti-development framework, keeping industrial carbon pricing, and Ottawa itself says the federal government is updating the industrial carbon price path as of May 2026.

So yes, Trump’s tariffs are a problem.

But Canada being too weak to absorb the shock is the Liberal record. Scheer is right. Carney did not change direction. He just put a better résumé on the same bad policy machine.
