MY ADDRESS TO MARK THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE 2027 PRESIDENTIAL AND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY CAMPAIGNS
21 August 2026
Dear Compatriots,
Members of the Press,
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen,
Wednesday, 19 August 2026, marked the official start of the campaign period for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
There is no doubt that this is a defining moment for our democracy. This moment gives Nigerians the opportunity to assess the records, ideas, and plans of those seeking their mandate to lead their country at a time of grave uncertainty in our rapidly changing world.
I consider myself quite privileged to be one of those seeking your mandate to deal with these challenges facing our country.
I enter this contest with one firm conviction: Nigeria can work, and Nigeria must work.
Nigeria faces several serious challenges. Some of them are indeed of existential proportions.
According to the IMF, 63%, or over 140 million Nigerians, live at or below the national poverty line, while humanitarian agencies estimate that 35 million people will need food assistance during the 2026 lean season. About 3.6 million Nigerians remain internally displaced, largely because of conflict and insecurity. Each year, millions of young people enter the labour market, yet too many struggle to find productive opportunities. Weak infrastructure, unreliable power, insecurity, and the excessive cost of doing business continue to burden households and constrain enterprise.
These are more than statistics. They reflect the daily realities of Nigerian families, farmers, workers, students, and businesses.
Yet I do not believe Nigeria lacks the ability to overcome these challenges. We have the people, resources, market, talent, and enterprise. What we must do now is turn these strengths into security, productivity, and shared prosperity.
LEADERSHIP MUST DELIVER RESULTS
My successful private-sector experience, studies in institutions of repute on policy and business matters, and my service as Governor of Anambra State have shaped my understanding of public leadership. Government must manage resources responsibly, set clear priorities, and measure the outcomes of its decisions. Public office is not a reward; it is a responsibility to the people.
In Anambra, I prioritised the foundations of long-term development: education, healthcare, infrastructure, fiscal discipline, and institutional capacity. I do not present that record as perfect, but as an experience from which Nigerians can draw their own conclusions.
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso brings a different but complementary governing experience.
As Governor of Kano State, he focused strongly on education, technical training, scholarships, infrastructure, and human-capital development. His administration’s investments in education and skills showed an understanding that the people are a state’s most important long-term resource.
Our experiences are different, but our conclusion is the same: Nigeria must invest in its people and manage public resources with discipline.
BUILDING AN ECONOMY THAT WORKS
Nigeria needs more than reactive reforms. We must focus on the questions that matter:
Are Nigerians better off than they were four years ago? Can they afford food, education, and healthcare? Can businesses produce, expand, and create jobs? Can young people find productive work? Can farmers work safely and get their produce to market?
In a spirit of complete collaboration, support and solidarity, I led the coordination and formal submission of National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates across the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Working closely with the National Working Committee (NWC) and candidates at all levels, the exercise was successfully concluded today, Thursday, 20th August 2026, with the formal presentation of all candidates’ names to the NDC National Leader, His Excellency Sen. Seriake Dickson.
I express our profound gratitude to the National Leader, the National Working Committee, and all the candidates for their cooperation and unwavering commitment.
This is more than the completion of a submission process , it is another decisive step towards building a formidable NDC team capable of competing strongly at every level.
The task ahead is promising, and we are ready to go. - RMK
Reversing the fuel subsidy removal is not the solution; fixing the broken execution is.
Atiku Abubakar’s promise to restore subsidies if elected in 2027 is classic political desperation dressed up as compassion. It ignores the hard truth Nigerians have already paid for with blood, livelihoods, businesses, and purchasing power. The problem was never the principle of removing a wasteful, corruption-riddled subsidy. The problem was the chaotic, poorly planned, and callously executed manner in which the Tinubu/APC administration did it by dumping the entire burden on the masses overnight while government continued business as usual with luxury spending and unchecked borrowing.
*Peter Obi has been consistent:* subsidy removal is necessary, but it must NEVER be done the way APC did it. A chaotic removal that spikes food inflation, crushes purchasing power, and leaves ordinary people to starve while the elite feast is not reform but it is abandonment. True leadership does not reverse course for cheap votes after the people have already endured the pain. It finishes the job properly so the suffering yields the long-promised benefits.
*Here is why restoring the subsidy would be a dangerous step backward:*
The real disease was (and is) corruption and inefficiency, not the absence of subsidy. The subsidy system had become a feeding trough for cartels, smugglers, and politically connected importers. Billions disappeared annually while refineries remained dead and Nigeria imported what it should refine. Reversing the removal simply reopens that trough.
*Peter Obi’s approach is the opposite:* aggressively dismantle the corruption syndicate that made the poor suffer in the first place, force the refineries to work in the shortest possible time, and cut the cost of governance so the savings actually reach the people.
*Hardship came from zero preparation and zero human face*. There was no credible sequencing, no targeted palliatives that reached the truly affected, no transparent communication, and no visible sacrifice from those in power. While Nigerians fasted, government went on a spending spree. Huge borrowing continues without corresponding funding of the capital budget year after year. That is not reform; that is elite capture with a reform label. A leader with integrity starts with himself, leads by example, and designs policies that carry compassion, empathy, and genuine care for the masses.
*Reversal would reward failure and punish endurance.* Nigerians have already absorbed the shock. The only fair path is to make the removal beneficial: genuine interventions for the hardest-hit sectors and households, proper communication that earns public buy-in, and disciplined governance that shows the pain was not in vain. Restoring the subsidy after the people have paid the price is the politics of short-term votes over long-term national interest. It signals that every difficult but necessary reform can be undone whenever an election approaches.
*Peter Obi’s position is clear and mature:* keep the removal, but execute it with a human face. Cut waste at every level of government. Attack the corruption that made subsidy removal so painful. Get the refineries working. Deliver targeted, transparent support so the transition does not destroy livelihoods. That is governance with integrity. That is leadership that respects the endurance of the Nigerian people rather than exploiting their suffering for electoral points.
Atiku’s promise may sound soothing in the moment, but it is a return to the old cycle of waste, opacity, and elite enrichment. Nigerians deserve better than another U-turn that postpones real reform. The country needs leaders who finish what is necessary; properly, compassionately, and without theatrics but not politicians who reverse course the moment the political cost becomes inconvenient.

The journey to building a New Nigeria is on! 🇳🇬
Build your campaign team at your polling unit and get ready to make your voice count.
VOTE H.E. PETER OBI FOR PRESIDENT — 2027.
Our stars are now improving on air balance of the drones through the direct application of calculus and aerodynamics.
The landing isn’t perfect yet, but they are all racking their brains to make it work.
This will be the future of our education.
Our future is exciting and inspiring.
We were contacted by NITDA through the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency (Enugu SME Center) to extend our bootcamp to an additional 100 Olympiad children in Enugu.
We will still handpick them from our Olympiad talent pool. The bootcamp will start on Monday August 24th, and will be holding in their facility in Enugu.
The project they will work on during this 2-week bootcamp is to build smart technology to help reduce the amount of money spent on electricity in homes. It should be able to automatically turn off lights when not in use, as well as home appliances to conserve energy and save cost.
This could save billions of Naira in homes.
It will be a combination of hardware and software during the bootcamp.
Our future is looking exciting.
Those Seeking to be Addressed as “His Excellency” Must Behave Excellently
Yesterday, I joined other presidential candidates to sign the first National Peace Accord for the 2027 Presidential Elections.
My signing of the accord is a reinforcement of my continued commitment to insisting that we, as candidates, must conduct ourselves in a way that reflects the office we aspire to. Leaders must eschew all forms of violent rhetoric and rein in their followers to do the same.
The next elections must be strictly based on the issues that matter to Nigerians: unity, insecurity, pulling people out of poverty, reducing the number of out-of-school children, and restoring hope to the long-suffering people of our country.
Our supporters must see that we have all committed to free, fair, and credible elections based on issues and devoid of rancour.
Those of us wishing to be addressed as “His Excellency” must behave excellently, and, more importantly, the process of attaining public office must be excellent.
We take very seriously the commitment of INEC to free, fair, and credible elections, as well as the pledge by law enforcement agencies to remain unbiased throughout the electioneering process.
I call on my supporters to remain firm, determined, and peaceful.

The delegates from Rome will be coming to Nigeria in November to see the amazing geniuses we have here and the amazing work we are doing.
They will also visit Enugu.
We are gradually getting the global recognition we need for our industrial revolution.
Let's end this cycle of killings.
The killings in Ungushi, Sokoto, where 32 Nigerians reportedly lost their lives, and the recent attacks in Ukum, Benue, where more lives have been lost and several others injured, are deeply painful.
These are not just numbers. They are parents, children, farmers, and breadwinners whose lives have been cut short, leaving families devastated and communities in fear.
We cannot continue with a cycle of killings, condolences, promises, and inaction. The government at all levels must prioritise addressing insecurity.
We need better intelligence, proactive security, swift responses, protection for vulnerable communities, and the diligent prosecution of perpetrators.
The government must endeavour to protect the lives and property of its citizens. Nigerians should be able to sleep peacefully in their homes, travel safely on our roads, and go to their farms without fear.
I extend my condolences to the families and communities affected by these senseless killings. May God comfort the bereaved, may Almighty Allah forgive the departed, and may our nation find lasting peace.

No one owns ISEE, not even Alex. It’s a mission for the region and is owned by everyone.
It’s not-for-profit and will never be. So every contribution is from the heart and comes from a genuine love of the people.
Everything remains public and transparent.
I’m fortunate to lead the project at this time, but others may lead it in the future.
The future of our children is all that matters.
WAEC is a very irresponsible organization. They have toyed with our children’s future for so long, with their age-long malpractices.
That needs to stop now. Our children’s future is all that matters.
Osun: While celebrating, let us also remember those who paid the ultimate price for democracy
Once again, I congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke and the good people of Osun State on the outcome of the election and, more importantly, on safeguarding the democratic process. The people have spoken through the ballot, reaffirming the fundamental principle that power belongs to the people.
As we celebrate this success, let's not forget those who made the supreme sacrifice for our democracy during the Osun election. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives under different circumstances during the electoral period. I believe these families deserve our collective compassion, solidarity, and support. I therefore hope that the families of those who lost their loved ones will be identified and reached through visits, condolences, and appropriate compensation, irrespective of the political side to which they belonged.
Elections should be about the people, their choices, and their aspirations — not about the loss of precious lives. No political victory is worth the blood of a Nigerian.
My prayer is that our democracy will continue to mature to a point where elections no longer come at the cost of human lives, and where political differences can always be settled through issue-based campaigns and the rule of law.
May God comfort all the families who have lost loved ones and grant the departed eternal rest.
With the right conduct of elections, a New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

This morning, our stars have made progress with their drones. Low cost drones for security and hospitals in the South East.
Some of these children are from remote villages, and you can see how exceptional they have become with little access.
I thank Rainbow Bridge College Enugu for this partnership with ISEE. They will be the first true technical school that aligns with our mission in the South East.
Our future is exciting.
On the 22nd of August, we will lay my beloved father to rest.
It is difficult to put into words how broken I have been. I am grateful for the life you lived, the memories we shared, and the love you left behind. The mornings we woke up and went straight to my parent’s room and yelled good morning, while receiving hugs and blowing up his tummy, even as an adult.
I remember asking for a camera as a birthday gift, before I even knew I’d be a photographer and without hesitation, you granted my wish.
You loved us too much and gave everything to us. Asides the material things, you gave us God, good education and left us a good name.
As we prepare to say our final goodbye, I ask for your prayers for my family, for strength, comfort, and the grace to carry this loss.
Rest peacefully, Eti-boy. You will forever be a part of me. 🕊️
We have now institutionalized ISEE, and it is now a formally registered non-governmental organization.
ISEE was rejected several times by the Corporate Affairs Commission until we amended the name to INITIATIVE FOR SCHOOL EXCELLENCE AND EDUCATION FOUNDATION.
Our chairman is Prof. Bath Nnaji, and I will continue to lead the vision.
Our members are Nathan Nwachuku, Eke Urum, and Tony Udeani.
The goal is for the vision to outlive our generation and lead us to civilization.
This is the beginning of greatness for Africa.
Yesterday, I continued my trip to Kogi State. I travelled to Onugba Ukoh in Olomaboro Local Government Area. There, I visited Mater Spei Model Nursery and Primary School, a facility made possible by the generous support of international donors.
It was a privilege to lay the foundation stone for the planned Mater Spei Secondary, Technical, and Vocational School. This significant undertaking is designed to enable young people from the local and surrounding communities to pursue their education while simultaneously gaining the technical and vocational expertise necessary for them to become self-sufficient and contributing members of society.
I extend my sincere appreciation to the proprietor and management for their visionary leadership, foresight, and dedication to investing in the education of our youth. I also conveyed my commitment to supporting this commendable initiative.
The imperative for continuous and strategic investment in education across our nation cannot be stressed enough. In a context where approximately 20 million Nigerian children are not enrolled in school, every endeavour to broaden educational access warrants encouragement and backing.
Education serves as the bedrock upon which we can construct a nation characterised by productivity, innovation, and prosperity. It is the platform from which an individual from humble beginnings can achieve prominence, irrespective of personal connections.
