Messi accidentally celebrated the goal with TyC Argentina journalist Joaquin Bruno.
Joaquin Bruno: "To this moment, I'm still shaking... Leo came over here to celebrate the second goal, he saw me screaming in celebration, so he came closer and shook my hand... I touched his hands! I honestly can't believe it."
"I need a photo of the celebration. Someone must have taken one, right? I need it."

🚨Mark Clattenburg on Lionel Messi's challenge against Algeria:
🗣 “When incidents like this happen, it's always interesting to see how differently they're perceived. A single still image can make a challenge look far worse than it actually was. That's why referees are taught to judge incidents in real time and from multiple angles rather than relying on freeze frames.
Watching the full sequence, Messi is clearly attempting to win the ball. As his opponent suddenly turns, Messi's foot lands on the lower part of his opponent's leg. It looks awkward, but context is everything. There is no excessive force, no lunge with both feet, and no evidence that Messi intended to injure the player.
Under the FIFA Laws of the Game, a player can be punished for a careless or reckless challenge depending on the force and intensity used. Stepping on an opponent's calf, shin, or lower leg does not automatically mean a red card. Referees must consider the speed of the challenge, the point of contact, the amount of force, and whether there was any serious foul play or intent to endanger the safety of the opponent.
In this case, the contact is unfortunate rather than malicious. Messi immediately raises his hands, acknowledging the accidental nature of the collision. That isn't what determines the decision, of course, but the replay supports the view that he was genuinely trying to play the ball.
A red card is reserved for serious foul play, excessive force, or challenges that clearly endanger an opponent's safety. This incident simply doesn't meet that threshold. At most, it's a careless or, depending on the referee's assessment of the intensity, a reckless challenge, not one worthy of a dismissal.
Considering everything Messi produced in the match, it's surprising that this challenge became such a major talking point. From a refereeing perspective, the correct analysis comes from the full video, not a single freeze frame.”
🚨🎙️Reporter: “Wayne, a lot of people are saying that challenge was a clear red card. What’s your take?”
🗣️Wayne Rooney: “A red card? Never. I’ve watched football long enough to know the difference between a hard challenge and a sending-off. The funny thing is, the outrage only seems this loud because it’s Messi involved. If that was any other player, we’d have moved on within five minutes.”
🎙️Reporter: “So you think people are overreacting?”
🗣️Rooney: “Absolutely. Every little incident becomes a global crisis when Messi is on the pitch. People are crying for a red card because it fits the narrative they want. For me, it’s a foul, nothing more. Football has become far too dramatic.”

Henry Winter, editor-in-chief of The Times on why he voted for Leo Messi for the Ballon d'Or.
“This may be the last time we celebrate Messi as the best player in the world, but the issue has nothing to do with nostalgia, nor with clinging to a romance that is fading. Rather, Messi deserves the Ballon d'Or.
When I voted for England for the Ballon d'Or, I thought carefully about the incredible work of Haaland and Mbappé, studied their amazing statistics and best shots, and then came back to Messi.
Messi led Argentina to win the World Cup last season with a performance comparable to Maradona's in the 1986 World Cup.
Football is about titles and Messi's performance in Qatar showed that he deserved first place and six points. Although Messi's career was brilliant with four Champions League titles, he needed a World Cup.
All the pressure was on their shoulders, especially with a young coach like Scaloni and a team that included three important young players in Enzo, Álvarez and Mac Allister. At times, especially after the first surprising loss against Saudi Arabia, Messi was under more pressure, and when his country needed him most, Messi responded.
He won the award for best player in the World Cup and scored 7 goals of quality and variety: long-distance goals against Mexico and Australia, deep goals against France and penalty kicks taken with different left, right, high and low goals. Messi also gave three assists and played every minute of the tournament.
No player has taken more shots on goal than him (32). Only Antoine Griezmann has more key passes than Messi, who has 21. Only Musiala and Mbappé dribbled more than him, and no player was exposed to more fouls than him.
If some of those who mock him might suggest that referees are influenced by his reputation, the reality is that Messi is being attacked and his amazing movements confuse opponents who jump and catch him.
By all standards, Messi was the most effective in the most important tournament in sport, but Messi is not just numbers, he is much more. Messi is poetry. Messi is the one who surprises you. Messi is that sudden burst of speed and that touch to keep the ball away from a defender like Gvardiol.
Messi is a special role model for the younger generation who follows the stars as much as the teams. Attending a match with your team is completely different from another match. “A Messi match in itself is considered an event.”
Absolutely unacceptable. #ambaariutsav bus from Kundapura to Bangalore got cancelled due to technical issues and the authorities are asking us to settle for a push back in random seats #airavatclubclass. We paid 1700 bucks not to go back home sitting.
