This reads like a cold compress on the fever dream of "Elite" that so many coaches peddle while their Venmo balance overflows with folks shopping for shortcuts.
@stevemagness Your character is the ceiling on your performance.
Cheaters hit that ceiling fast and hard.
Champions build from a foundation of integrity.
Respect for the process creates respect for the result.
And respect for the result creates results worth respecting.
Underrated leadership advantage: Self-awareness. Know your blind spots and surround yourself with people who see clearly. Know your triggers and manage your reactions. Know your limits and delegate accordingly. You cannot lead others until you lead yourself.
Being a part of the Heisman ceremony last night as a finalist was such an honor. As a competitor, just like in everything I do I wanted to win. To be so close to my dream and come up short was painful. I didn’t handle those emotions well at all and did not represent myself the way I wanted to. I have much love and respect for the Heisman voters and the selection process, and I apologize for being disrespectful. It was a mistake, and I am sorry.
Fernando Mendoza is an elite competitor and a deserving winner of the award. I have nothing but respect for his accomplishments as well as the success that Jeremiyah and Julian had this season.
I’ve been doubted my whole life. Every step of my journey I’ve had to break down doors and fight for myself, because Ive learned that nothing would be handed to me. My family has always been in my corner, and my teammates, coaches and staff have my six. I love them — I am grateful for them.
— and I wouldn’t want anything to distract from that. I look forward to competing in front of my family and with my team one more time in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
Just read that Starbucks lost $30B after hiring a McKinsey consultant as CEO.
Guy spent his career advising founders how to build companies, but never built one himself.
17 months later, he’s gone.
They bring in the Taco Bell CEO…
and the market cap jumps $20B overnight.
Turns out running a company is harder than advising one.
Dear #JelenaOstapenko:
This is what respect, humanity and class looks like. It’s diffident when someone has been where you’ve been, understand your struggle and instead of hating or acting as if you are not good enough, they show love, support, empathy and give hope” ~Deon Taylor
You said the thing. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The potential for profit is there, and would love to see the league stop leaning into gender as the reason to watch these athletes. It’s time to tell the story of elevated product quality, which is why these women compete. Let the memes and cat fights be the surround sound. What does women’s Bball stand for? That’s what should take center stage. The league needs to invest in a new narrative and stop letting the noise dictate the conversation. It’s an entertainment business that deserves to deliver a return for all of its stakeholders.
Mentally reframe difficult experiences:
Difficulty is a filter that exposes the weak-minded and rewards the strong-minded. Difficulty is necessary to keep the unwilling away from what they haven't earned. The best rewards are protected by the most difficulty.
Marcus Freeman's powerful perspective on what the mindset should be for Notre Dame football players jockeying for depth chart positioning in spring ball...
"You waste time daydreaming about an uncertain future. Who cares? You should be focused on being the best version of you."
