I will say, I used “keep Noelle out” intentionally, as in both “out of the Prophecy” and “out of their life”
Kris distancing themselves from Noelle to keep her safe, but then she just gets pulled in anyway…

I know people like to read Kris standing at the end of Ch5 as Kris being like “:( Susie doesn’t want our special thing to be Just Ours anymore”, and I mean it might partly be that, but I feel like it’s more resigned as in “everything I did to keep Noelle out was for nothing :/“

Noelle is the one who finds the door in Dragon Blazers, Noelle is the one who is related to Spamton in whatever weird way, she’s related to cats and potentially Friend… anyway I’ll stop

Trying to “choose” Susie’s role to be hero and Noelle’s to be a regular NPC didn’t work.
But also, despite Susie not being “chosen” as a hero, she subverts that by stepping into the role and doing it better than anyone expected.

or despite not being Prophesied for it, someone steps into the role and ends up being even more suited to it
The tagline of Ch1 in particular is “no one can choose who they are in this world”…
Which fits in a couple ways, for me: despite trying to keep Noelle out of the story, -

CHOOSE her, but she’s still a kind and brave person who acts even more heroic than Kris (at times)
I don’t know why people get so defensive when people talk about The Girl not being Susie; which is more fitting for a story like Deltarune, all the heroes were handpicked by Fate, -

And I’m not trying to minimize Susie’s role or Susie’s relationship with Kris at all!
I feel like Susie being brought in as a “replacement” hero or if we want to go even further, a replacement sacrifice for Noelle, is very important to her character…

The idea that Kris/whoever is involved with the “conspiracy��� behind the plot to keep Noelle out of the “Girl” role and instead replace her with the “Dragon” (Susie) makes sense because they try to keep us away from their thoughts/memories of her (like the scrapbook in Ch5)

And even despite Kris’ best efforts to keep the Prophecy away from Noelle, the literal person they brought in to fulfill her role, Susie, ends up being like “hey you know who we HAVE to bring into our adventures? Noelle!”
I feel like it has to be intentional at this point, yanno?

Noelle is so clearly “supposed” to be important: her and Kris were childhood best friends (RPG trope), her sister is The Big Bad (as far as they know now), and at least one of the DWs is made “for” her
