.@AldermanErvin had an incredible speech today but you will not see it in the papers. Media ignores this historical moment of a Black led remap in Chicago
Today we made history with the City Council passing a redistricting map that includes Chicago’s first Asian American majority ward. #AAPI#AAPIHeritageMonth
Thanks to the leadership of @AldermanHarris, our city is moving forward with a fair and equitable map and avoiding a costly referendum for Chicago’s taxpayers.
JUST IN: The once-a-decade power struggle to redraw Chicago’s ward boundaries is over. The City Council voted 43 to 7 to approve a map that includes 14 majority Hispanic wards and preserves 17 African American wards, including one with a Black plurality.

.@ward32chicago: “What we voted on today was to provide those incentives, and that opportunity for Latinos, for Blacks, and for the first time ever, an Asian American ward that they've been waiting decades for.”
Aldermen led by @AldermanHarris are holding a news conference now on the passage of the new ward map. Harris assures people that the aldermen that will represent Englewood will work together.
.@ald_nicolelee: "Before I ever came on the scene...the one thing that you all agreed on, was that there would be an Asian American ward. So I'm going to take the moment to speak on behalf of the entire Asian American community of Chicago, and really thank you for that"
Zooming in on the 11th Ward, which is set to be the city's first majority-Asian American Ward. @chicagosmayor earlier this year appointed @ald_nicolelee as alder of the 11th Ward. She is the first Chinese American member of the City Council
When your ward looks nearly identical in both city remap proposals, why do you not work with the majority of your colleagues to reach a compromise? @rodriguezfor22
