On this game:
1. South Africa 🇿🇦 went into the game already mentally defeated and that affected their approach and flow.
While at the tunnel, Williams was showing it off with his face how "intimidated" they were.
2. I think South Africa 🇿🇦 is lacking "Big Players" who are used to big occasions like this to step up and be counted. That mental stability that comes from being at the big stages of football ⚽ really affected their output.
3. The goalkeeper didn't help their matter at all with two silly passes while trying to play out from the back.
4. Mexico 🇲🇽 played well, but they were not "all that dominating" and impressive. They will need to up their game when they face bigger opposition in this tournament.
5. Well, the new IFAB rules really worked, players did well to restart the game quick enough and that is good for in game flow.
6. I don't think I agree with the last two red cards. Those could have been just yellow 🟨.
In all, it's a good opening to the tournament.

@john322226 They were already thoroughly defeated mentally before the match started and that affected their output during the game.
That's why they kept making unforced errors in their own half.

@Morris_Monye Yeah, they really didn't play spectacularly. They just met a team that was intimidated by the occasion and fell flat.

Look at what this goal 🥅 means to Raul... The passion on his face is priceless.
I am sure Iwobi, Bassey and Chukwueze will be very happy for him...
That was a proper center forward play, creating a good space behind the defenders and heading it home calmly.
Now this is UEFA doing two things:
1. Using the current uproar against FIFA to make itself look more "moral" and receptive. Thereby, running a better and positive PR with the whole situation.
2. UEFA is telling the world that they don't care where you come from or the color of your skin, as long as you are the best, you are WELCOME and accepted to be at the very top and peak 🗻 of your career.
This is good and it shows how FIFA failed in its role as an "employer" to secure the right of its own "employee".
Whether it's for PR or for acceptance, UEFA is doing the world some good and making this referee proud of his journey thus far.

On this game:
1. Eric Chelle has improved the team's play and connection on pitch, that's a fact no one should deny.
2. The second half immediately after the subs, the team really went on the front foot.
3. I believe Moses Simon had paid his dues for the team and it's time to take some steps back. He takes too much time on the ball ⚽ trying to get his move, and before he does, most defenders have already figured out his intent.
4. Zaidu Sanusi isn't the Left Back that will get Chelle to the promise land. Chelle needs to urgently scout for a much better left back (3). Zaidu makes too many errors in consistent games to keep being on the team. There was a mis-pass he made today that almost cost the team.
5. Samuel Chukwueze will need to up his decision making, speed control and ball carrying game asap or sit more on the bench. The likes of Femi Azeez will not make it easy for him on who gets the nudge for games.
6. Maduka Okoye is a good goalkeeper, especially with close range shots. The things he needs to work on is:
a. His positioning and anticipation when play is ongoing at the outer end of the box 18.
b. He also needs to continue building his confidence level and understand that he is a national team goalkeeper (which is different from club side). I believe the more he plays under Chelle, the better he should get.
Generally the boys gave a good account of themselves and didn't allow the Portuguese overrun them.

Mexico 🇲🇽 scores the very first goal 🥅 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Let's see if South Africa 🇿🇦 will reply or if this will be a pouncing of the African team.
@tobyasky Ọmọ, I think Qatar 🇶🇦 and the 2022 World Cup did a better job than this for the opening ceremony. Unless there's more than what I just watched anyways.
Papa Mexico 🇲🇽 or Mama Joy 🇿🇦
It is interesting how a game of football ⚽ is being used as a means to send a message as regards to immigration issues in South Africa 🇿🇦 by fellow Africans.
A global showpiece might become a tool for score settling for so many people in Africa.
The game will definitely be an interesting one to watch as Mexicans will wonder why they might not be the only ones cheering 📣 their team.
Who will be getting your support during the game between Mexico 🇲🇽 vs South Africa 🇿🇦 in the opening game of the FIFAWorldCup?
