Like hundreds of other activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, I was abducted by the IDF and held in Ketziot prison. There, I saw firsthand that Israel’s “strength” is more fragile than it seems.

With broken hearts we announce the passing of Jane McAlevey @rsgexp: founder, lead trainer, heart & soul of our global training program. You will be so missed. And may this elegy serve as a commitment: that your legacy serve as the building blocks for our victories to come.
The deselection of @faizashaheen is unacceptable.
To use her tweets accounting personal experiences of Islamophobia as evidence for deselection is utterly outrageous.
Telling a Muslim woman she is not allowed to talk about her own experiences of racism is clear Islamophobia.
“Honestly I’m so shocked right now, to be treated this badly”
Faiza Shaheen, who was set to stand for Labour, describes hearing that her candidacy had been pulled over liking a series of Tweets which she claims Labour said would frustrate its campaign

"Throughout all of this, even when her views did not align with those of the leadership, the party acknowledged hers was an important voice, and it found space for her and people who shared her politics."
Important and moving article from Maurice.
Diane Abbott is more than just a groundbreaking politician, she is a symbol. Black communities are watching.
My latest for @guardian

Thank you, London. It's the honour of my life to serve the city I love. 🙏🏿
Today is not about making history, it’s about shaping our future.
And I'll work relentlessly to shape a fairer, safer, greener city for every Londoner.
Once again I’m deeply disturbed by Islamophobic quotes given to the media by "Labour sources".
When politicians are confronted with racist bile, it should be immediately condemned.
As a party we need to listen to and acknowledge concerns, not hold British Muslims in contempt.
Positive updates:
- PROTESTERS WON! There was a presence at the hotel all night, but activists now feel confident the coach won't return today.
- Dozens of people signed up to wait for arrestees at police stations across London all night. Most people are now out on bail.
Updates, negative first:
- Police violently dispersed the protest at around 4pm yday.
- 44 ARRESTS (a huge number!)
- Charges include obstructing the highway, obstructing & assaulting police.
- Some may also have been collectively charged with criminal damage for coach tyres
“The people who were due to be removed include teenagers who are attending colleges in the area, according to protesters at the scene.”
Proud of Peckham for resisting the government’s inhumane anti-refugee agenda.
Solidarity to all those peacefully protesting.
The Mayoral election is next Thursday.
The choice is clear: a Tory candidate who doesn’t share London’s values, or my plans for a fairer, safer and greener city for all Londoners.
If you love London - vote for it. #VoteLabour
Thank you @chlmao for our latest campaign slogan. "Peckham needs affordable housing not second homes". If you agree, SIGN our petition https://t.co/U0OQblbG1R #RightForPeckham
At a meeting about the Aylesham development in Peckham last night, residents asked who would be buying the market rate homes, a @BerkeleyGroupUK staffer replied “people who want second homes.”
It’s offensively out of touch. Peckham needs affordable housing not second homes.
Busy meeting on the Aylesham Centre development this evening.
Concerns so far include:
-lack of awareness of the development in the community
-need for detailed plans including to scale models
-need for significant affordable housing
-role this will play in gentrifying Peckham
45 years ago today, Blair Peach, a schoolteacher and anti-racist campaigner, died as a result of being hit over the head by police. He, along with thousands of others, was demonstrating against the National Front in Southall. Rest in power.
