Excited to share our paper published in @TheLancetOncology showing #TERT expression (independent of mutation) is associated with earlier recurrence in #meningiomas. Thank you to my supervisors @GelarehZadeh@FarshadNassiri, coauthors, editors, reviewers https://t.co/bRlxwDdl2c
Very special night for @UofTNeuroSurge celebrating the graduation of Justin Wang and Laureen Hachem. It has been a privilege to watch them grow into exceptional surgeons, physicians, scientists. We are incredibly proud and excited to see the impact youll have in the years ahead!
We are excited to introduce you to our seven outstanding individuals who will be joining us as #PGY1s in July! Please join us in welcoming them to the #UofT#Neurosurgery family!
Meningiomas are usually low-grade, but they sometimes behave more aggressively than doctors expect. The Charity is funding a growing body of research led by Dr Gelareh Zadeh to improve understanding of these tumours.

Grateful to the many teams who supported this work, championed by Karenna Groff. As we uncover more biomarkers of tumor behavior, implementation into clinical practice merits close introspection of context. @MGBneurosurgery@LabRaleigh@sahm_lab@MGBCTNS@NYUneurosurgery@RuchitVP
A new multi-institutional study led by @MayoClinic neurosurgeon @gelarehzadeh, reveals that high activity in a gene called TERT can predict whether a tumor is more likely to recur quickly — even if it appears low-grade. https://t.co/0uLFtinkBR
New research led by a Mayo Clinic neurosurgeon showed that meningiomas with TERT activity act more aggressively than their grade suggests.

🎙️✨ Congratulations to Dr. @FarshadNassiri, neurosurgeon at UHN's Krembil Brain Institute and scientist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, on his recent podcast appearance hosted by @TheLancet Oncology!

We found in a multi-institutional cohort >1200 tumours, over 30% of meningiomas expressed TERT (whereas only 3% had TERT promoter mutations). Patients with meningiomas that expressed TERT had PFS similar to those with meningiomas that were one WHO grade higher.

We had the pleasure of hosting all first year neurosurgery residents from across Canada for the 14th Annual Canadian Neurosurgery Rookie Camp. A huge thank you to our dedicated faculty, residents, sponsors, and support teams who made this event possible. @uoftmedicine
Our PGY1s, Bianka, Eddie, Sabra and Seika, just finished their crash course in neurosurgery! They are phenomenal and we are excited to see their journey in neurosurgery unfold.
