Explosive eruption just started at St Vincent. Hope everyone is safe. Timely evacuation order yesterday afternoon after great work by @uwiseismic@VincieRichie and team as activity increased. Great to see government and scientists working together to mitigate natural hazards.
At 8:41 am this morning 9-4-21 an explosive eruption began at La Soufrière volcano in St. Vincent. This is a culmination of the seismic activity that began on April 8. The eruption is ongoing and more information will be shared as things progress. #lasoufriere#uwi#volcano#svg
How exciting to bring my tech and earth science passions together as I join the first @beondeck Climate Tech Fellowship! What an impressive group of startup and climate leaders helping accelerate this space. Thanks @cammori and team, as well as @fionaspruill@tilljoel@DomPotter
Interesting new study. There's a huge opportunity to fill the gap between boards' lack of climate experience - and companies' decarbonization commitments. Board diversity efforts should include addressing this.
At 100 largest U.S. companies, 3 out of 1,188 board members have climate expertise
That’s 0.2%
And just 6% had broader environmental experience
Another reason there's a huge gap between what companies say about fighting climate change, and what they do

Congrats @RepDebHaaland and @JoeBiden for this historic nomination as 1st Native American Secretary of Interior. Look forward to you bringing your diverse & inclusive voice and others to the table to ensure a sustainable future for our lands and planet!
Congrats @RepDebHaaland on @JoeBiden nomination for Sec of Interior-1st Native American in the role! Thx also to @SenatorTomUdall & fmr Dep Sec Michael Connor for being willing to serve. I look fwd to helping the new Sec & @Interior thrive, shaping a sustainable future for all!
Great Op-Ed by @CIG_UW@uwearthlab scientist Crystal Raymond calling for unity & multifaceted action to address the West's wildfires. "As humans, we want a simpler answer, 1 explanation, but to have any hope of tackling the problem, we need to recognize all the factors colliding"
Crystal Raymond, @CIG_UW climate adaptation specialist & fire ecologist, has fielded a lot of questions recently on the causes of #wildfires in the West. In this @seattletimes Op-Ed, she pushes for unity to address the root causes of the #wildfire problem: https://t.co/oIt6Awoudq
40 years today another unexpected tragedy hit with the eruption of Mount St Helens.
The scientific learnings and technology developments helped mitigate future disasters around the world - including in Montserrat where Mount St Helens colleagues helped us save lives.
On the 40th anniversary of the Mount St. Helens eruption, we checked in with @UW_ESS professors then and now on lessons learned from this momentous occasion. https://t.co/2snMtLaHFf
Insightful article by my former volcanology colleague and friend Professor @claire_horwell highlighting the tension between the principle of effectiveness and the precautionary principle in mask-wearing guidance.
Why do countries have such different policies on mask-wearing? Because we don't have enough evidence to make a definitive call.

As we flatten the curve, we build a precious trust between science and society. My spirits are buoyed knowing that so many around the world are developing a new appreciation for what excellent science and science reporting looks like. Happy #EarthDay50

Today is an exciting day. OfferUp & letgo are combining US marketplaces, which means there will be more than 20 million monthly buyers & sellers to exchange with on both apps. We’ll have more details soon, but you can see what we’re sharing today here: https://t.co/72RTZ7nenr
So lucky to live in Seattle where @sallyjewell and @SylviaEarle@SeattleAquarium Ocean Conservation Honors remind us of the importance of The Blue, the interconnectness of the world and what we can all do! @uwearthlab
Thanks @GovInslee for your energizing speech on how WA state is leading the world in the Clean Energy Revolution. “In 100 years, this is how we will be judged.” “Early to bed, early to rise, work like hell, let’s go build the new economy!” #ELS2019@uwearthlab@dt_schwartz
We often say that “children are the future.” The #climatestrike makes it clear: young people are our present, our inspiration, and the reason we have to act now on climate change.
@Hertz Update: @hertz left me for 1 week without car, after 2 weeks asked if I still had car they'd had towed, after 3 weeks located car & agreed breakdown not my fault. Great case study if CEO @KathyMarinello serious about "always doing the right thing" & "really caring about people"
Stranded in UK Lakes w 2 small kids as @hertz car broke down w mechanical gearbox fault per RAC who towed it 24 hrs ago. @hertz say can’t help til Vauxhall files official report in few more days, need to “protect their asset” in case I wrecked car! Unbelievable customer service!
@Hertz Yes I’ve contacted @hertz Manchester airport location multiple times who will not provide replacement car til they hear from Vauxhall in perhaps a few days. They’ve made no effort to contact Vauxhall or RAC mechanic (who @hertz got to tow car) to find out details. Unbelievable!
