Feeling inspired going into Day 2 of #i42022. Day 1 spoke to my soul and continued to ignite my passion for putting patients first as we look to innovate in healthcare. Challenging our thinking and acknowledging our burnout in healthcare is key. Let’s learn! Change! Improve!
Let me be clear. AHS is full of kind people. There is nothing but good will in that institution. Management worked their asses off during the pandemic to turn contradictory opinion based policy from government into life saving delivery of care. Often at great personal sacrifice.
As a Canadian: I won’t for one second think that what’s happening in the United States with #RoeVsWade can’t happen here…We must be vigilant. Take nothing for granted. Act like our basic human rights depend on it…Because they do.
Unpopular opinion:
#Medicine trains us to care more about the opinions of our superiors & peers than the experiences of patients...or ourselves.
We really need to re-center medicine on what matters.

When I think back over my 40 year career, the best, most impactful times were when I had a boss who understood me & who believed in me. Maybe as leaders, we should all aspire to be that boss that others remember. Sketchnote by @anujmagazine based on a tweet by @ValaAfshar
I'll never forget Dr. Yiu's honesty about the struggling health system when politicians were pretending everything was ok.
She made tough decisions, handled the abuse hurled her way with resolve, and strove for what was best for Albertans & HCWs.

Gut wrenching news about @dryiu_verna. My heart is aching. Thank you for navigating us through the pandemic, for showing love, compassion and for standing up for what matters. We will fight for Albertans and we thank you for being our fearless leader. #ThankYiu
In toxic cultures, being a workaholic is normalized and sacrificing sleep is glorified. The best way to get ahead is to burn out.
In healthy cultures, quality of life is expected and having a life is celebrated. You're encouraged to put your well-being above your work.
Our team just cared for an elder who couldn't afford to see a dentist. He was in pain, lost a lot of weight & eventually developed a life-threatening dental infection.
Tell me again how Canada claims to have “universal” healthcare, but still doesn’t provide dental care for all?
When asked why we can’t have vaccine clinics in schools the UCP dog whistle about the danger of kids being vaccinated away from parents - clear implication of without consent.
It’s absurd, we already do vaccinations in schools, just more UCP support for disinformation. #abelg
Got my son booked for his covid shot today! The best part was how happy and excited he was when I told him at dinner. He’s 11. He jumped up and started playing air guitar with excitement. He understands what being vaccinated means for him, his family and our community!
Today, Health Canada approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5 - 11. Appointments will be available as soon as we receive vaccine supply. You can register your child online in advance of appointment availability: https://t.co/lzvUhLue7O (1/5)
