I Cannot Believe That at This Stage of My Life, I Need to Ask for Help - But here I am.

I have set up a GoFundMe page. Yes, it’s been up for almost three months — but due to various personal and technical issues, I couldn’t do what everyone recommends: post messages daily, even multiple times a day. I’ve only begun doing that this past week.

Truth be told, I never imagined I’d find myself in this position at my age. But I am desperate. I’m not only a Holocaust survivor — I also grew up in a communist country under Stalin’s regime, behind the Iron Curtain. My family lived in constant fear, day and night, 24/7 for years. As a child, I felt the full weight of it every day.
Don’t you think I’ve suffered enough?

You might ask, would your photo scare me?
It began about ten years ago. My teeth started to discolor… then some broke… then they began to fall out — sometimes while I was eating. A few I almost swallowed.

Now, I’m not even sure if I can still be helped, but I feel I must try. As you may know, Medicare does not cover dental care.

About four years ago, I visited two dental offices. Both gave me nearly the same diagnosis:

“We’ll need to remove the remaining teeth, treat the gums, and after healing, create dentures that look and feel natural.”

Their estimate: $20,000–$25,000.
I asked, “Do you offer a payment plan?”
“Sorry, we don’t.”

That was the end of it. I told myself I’d return when I could afford it.

I tried loans — but my credit was already damaged (that’s a story for another time). I tried everything I could to get by, but never came close to what I needed.

Throughout my life, I’ve never asked for something for free — but now, I have no choice.

I can barely eat (only soft, mashed food). People often can’t understand me because I can hardly speak. I live with pain every day and rely on medication just to function

I have started this book, but my health issues prevent me from working on it continuously. That is why I decided to try the "GoFundMe" avenue. So far I feel disappointed. I told you I would tell you the story of one of my rescues during the holocaust. My aunt placed Me into a catholic orphanage because my mother was taken to a concentration camp. My father was taken periodically to a Russian labor camp (but he always managed to escape, including even from a situation where he was forced to dig his own grave), and my aunt needed to work to pay the rent for her place.
