One thing I tend to see really disparate takes on is how much of Stede’s presentation is masculine or feminine, and I kept thinking about it, so a while back I wrote this meta on Tumblr and now I'm sharing it here.
@horse_disk Coming back to this a year and a half later to note that book 3 went back to m/m and blew my fucking mind with how hot the tension and the sex was. Pls pls pls do this again but with f/f!!!
@horse_disk Of course there are many possible reasons for this shift, but in context it feels to me like it relates to how high the standards are for female characters and wlw rep (no pining, no spontaneous sex, no tragic backstory making her be kind of an asshole).
@writingaschi@adybpt Just to make sure I was being clear, I was about 20 myself at the time and I think the moral panic about Twilight teaching girls that abuse is romantic was stupid.
@CobaltAugust "This new fic only got 200 kudos. I used to get 500 kudos. :( People feel entitled not to thank the author these days!" Bad.
"I remember how much enjoyment my past fics represented and it's sad to see them gathering dust." Fine.
@CobaltAugust You weren't saying that people were mean for not reading your fics - it was about a tapering off of community, essentially, and yeah, that is a loss and you're allowed to feel sad about it!
@gentleblahaj I had him not reading in my literal first fic in the fandom because the X was still fresh in my mind and it fit the plot, but after that I dropped it. Was gobsmacked when canyonites were arguing him reading the letter in s2 was confusing/wrong. Like, are you for real??
The Knives Are Out (2.5k, T): A Gentleman Jack AU!
Stede comes to live with Ed at Shibden Hall, and things don't always go smoothly. (It's fluff, so you know they work it out.)

been wanting to draw a gal pal version but I keep changing my mind on their outfits, their hair, everything 🤯
so i'm dropping this here, sometimes looking at it on twitty helps me decide 🥹
@mistresstailor It can also be an extremely useful way to teach people about fashion history. "See this costume from Currently Trending Show? Now that I have your attention, let's talk about the reality and what a real Regency ball dress would have looked like!"
@mistresstailor "This isn't accurate and it doesn't even look good"/"This doesn't look good and it's not even accurate" - it's a double whammy. If there's a cohesive vision that's aesthetically interesting, I'm fine with that!
@mistresstailor I don't really know how to answer this because it's not an either/or? Pedantry for the sake of pedantry is annoying, but typically when I critique for inaccuracy my point is that I think it would have looked better if it were more accurate, because it's being done badly.
@Sasspiria She wants to get attention for being mean in a way that can be construed as punching up (at other queer women). Logic is unnecessary, she only Requires Hate.
