@sambilland@luxemiaa If you are traveling for business, that might be the difference. Now that I am not rising to catch early flights to put me on the ground for a meeting, and late return flights after meetings, I have witnessed it a couple of times. And, it is becoming more prevalent.
Let’s not ignore the timing here. This raid comes just weeks after Virginia voters rejected Trump-backed efforts to rig the midterms, and it is not the first time Trump and his allies have openly targeted Black women they view as political opponents — including New York Attorney General Letitia James, Lisa Cook, and Congresswoman LaMonica McIver.
Americans are tired of watching y’all play political games just to generate headlines while the actual attacks on democracy keep getting ignored. Where’s this energy for the states that have spent years suppressing voters, rigging maps, and silencing Black communities?
No vote in Tennessee (+1 GOP)
No vote in Florida (+4 GOP)
No vote in Missouri (+1 GOP)
No vote in North Carolina (+2 GOP)
No vote in Texas (+5 GOP)
Virginia’s voter-approved maps thrown out.
MAGA has rigged the system.
Disgraceful. Today, four Justices believed they knew better than the
people of the Virginia. This decision, of course, came AFTER more than 3 million Virginians cast their ballot.
If you’re mad about Virginia, support a national gerrymandering ban.
If you’re not willing to take map-drawing away from politicians in every state, you’re not mad about gerrymandering. You’re mad your side lost this round.
Tonight, Virginians sent a message heard across this country: we will not let Donald Trump or MAGA Republicans rig our democracy.
This started in Texas when Trump launched an unprecedented power grab to rig the midterms and tonight Virginia voters ended it and voted YES to stop his power grab.
We trusted the voters, not politicians. We put this question on the ballot because we believe power belongs to the people. And tonight, the people of Virginia answered.
In a special election with everything on the line, Virginians showed up in extraordinary numbers and chose fairness over fear, truth over misinformation, and democracy over political games.
Let’s be clear about what this means: Virginia just changed the trajectory of the 2026 midterms. At a moment when Trump and his allies are trying to lock in power before voters have a say, Virginians stepped up and leveled the playing field for the entire country.
Virginia has done this before — and tonight, we did it again. When the stakes are highest, we lead.
Reporter: What do you make of Republicans saying that Virginia—
AOC: Wah wah wah.
We have asked Republicans for 10 years to ban partisan gerrymandering. And for 10 years, Republicans have said no. Republicans have fought for partisan gerrymanders across the United States of America. And these are the rules that they have set.
And so if the Republican Party wanted to start this, they did this in North Carolina. They drew out three Democratic members of Congress in North Carolina. They did it in Texas.
What they’re just mad at is that they have been accustomed to a Democratic Party that rolls over, doesn’t fight, and takes everything sitting down. And what they’re mad at right now is that we are here in a new day. And we have been asking the Democratic Party to stand up and fight, and now they did—and now the Republican Party doesn’t like the fact that they are fighting against someone who actually will stand up for the American people.
So if Republicans decide that they would like to revisit a ban on partisan gerrymandering, I welcome them. We have the bill right here to end this all today. But they don’t want to, because they like pursuing and continuing to enact an unfair electoral landscape. And so we have an obligation to defend ourselves.
Today, I signed the Momnibus — a package of bills to improve healthcare coverage for moms and babies.
No mother should have to fear dying from childbirth. We have the highest maternal mortality rate of any high-income country, and we know Black women are at greatest risk.
🚨NEWS: Virginia now has Paid Family and Medical Leave!
Working Virginians will no longer be forced to give up their paycheck to welcome a child or care for a loved one facing a serious illness.
A historic step forward for the people who power Virginia’s economy.
Concerning Social Security payments, my contributions were made for 40 years on every salary I received. Those jobs may not have always been the work I wanted to be doing at the time, BUT I always had a job. The Social Security check is now (or soon will be) referred to as a "Federal Benefit Payment?" I'll be part of the one percent to forward this.
I am forwarding it because it touches a nerve in me, and I hope it will in you. Please keep passing it on until everyone in our country has read it. The government is now referring to our Social Security checks as a "Federal Benefit Payment." This isn't a benefit. It is our money paid out of our earned income! Not only did we all contribute to Social Security but our employers did too. It totaled 15% of our income before taxes.
If you averaged $30K per year over your working life, that's close to $180,000 invested in Social Security. If you calculate the future value of your monthly investment in social security ($375/month, including both you and your employers contributions) at a meager 1% interest rate compounded monthly, after 40 years of working you'd have more than $1.3+ million dollars saved! This is your personal investment. Upon retirement, if you took out only 3% per year, you'd receive $39,318 per year, or $3,277 per month.
That's almost three times more than today's average Social Security benefit of $1,230 per month, according to the Social Security Administration. (Google it – it’s a fact).
And your retirement fund would last more than 33 years (until you're 98 if you retire at age 65)! I can only imagine how much better most average-income people could live in retirement if our government had just invested our money in low-risk interest-earning accounts.
Instead, the folks in Washington pulled off a bigger "Ponzi scheme" than Bernie Madoff ever did. They took our money and used it elsewhere. They forgot (oh yes, they knew) that it was OUR money they were taking. They didn't have a referendum to ask us if we wanted to lend the money to them. And they didn't pay interest on the debt they assumed. And recently they've told us that the money won't support us for very much longer.
But is it our fault they misused our investments? And now, to add insult to injury, they're calling it a "benefit", as if we never worked to earn every penny of it.
Just because they borrowed the money doesn't mean that our investments were a charity!
Let's take a stand. We have earned our right to Social Security and Medicare. Demand that our legislators bring some sense into our government.
Find a way to keep Social Security and Medicare going for the sake of that 92% of our population who need it. Then call it what it is: Our Earned Retirement Income.
😡😡😡✅
Virginians are getting out and voting YES across the Commonwealth for #SuperSaturdayVirginia!
Together, we can stop Trump’s power grab and let voters decide our elections — not MAGA politicians.

@SpanbergerForVA made the right call vetoing Fairfax casino bill which initially moved forward despite opposition from residents, leaders and legislators who represent northern Fairfax County community. Local decisions should be driven by local voices.

We have less than a month to get out the vote and pass this critical redistricting amendment that will protect Virginians’ right to vote and put a stop to Trump’s national power grab.
No time to waste. Vote YES by April 21.
