Most of the Hindus have forgotten the significance of the Vedic god. So I am starting a series on them from today.

Let's Start with the SURYA DEV

According to the Mahanarayana Upanishad 1.2.1-

The Universe arose through Vishvakarma, the Divine Architect and cosmic creator, manifesting through water, earth, fire and the other primordial elements. He excelled Aditya, Indra, and other gods.

The RISING SUN, identified as Tvashta, appears each morning as a radiant embodiment of His brilliance.

In the beginning of creation the mortal world enveloped in gloom received its divine brilliance from the sun shining in the glory of the Paramatman.

The same Upanishad also highlights that Sun-God who is the son of Parabrahman, who shines for the benefit of gods, who is invoked as the beneficent leader of the gods, and was born as the eldest among the gods.

According to Rig Veda 1.115.1-

The Sun has filled the Heaven and the Earth and the middle space, and regarded as the atma of all movable and non movable.

According to Sri Arvido -

Surya is both the highest Light and the highest Truth. The physical Sun that we see is a visible expression of that Divine Light.

For the Vedic Rishis, there is ultimately one UNIVERSAL DEV, while the many divine names represent different forms and aspects of that same Reality.

According to Shrimad Bhagvattam 5.20.44 -

मृतेऽण्ड एष एतस्मिन् यदभूत्ततो मार्तण्ड इति व्यपदेशः ।
हिरण्यगर्भ इति यद्धिरण्याण्डसमुद्भवः ॥

The sun-god is also known as VAIRAJA, the total material body for all living entities. Because he entered this dull egg of the universe at the time of creation, he is also called MARTANDA. He is also known as HIRANYAGARBHA because he received his material body from Hiranyagarbha (Brahma)
