I like how you quoted something that I never said... Seems like a lie ...
I never said that he thought Jesus didn't exist.
Just curious, but have you tried arguing what I actually said.
@chrestusapp @RealMGHarris @ReligionProf @RealityRevInc @DMSpence2 @TrueColorzx1 You read the word “parable” and assume Crossan means “made up shit.” Except...that’s not what Crossan means. I’m familiar with his work. He says that the gospels intertwine factual information with elements of fiction in parabolic form.
@perseus1977 @RealMGHarris @ReligionProf @RealityRevInc @DMSpence2 @TrueColorzx1 John Dominic Crossan identifies them as megaparables. So crafted fiction to teach some principle.
@TrueColorzx1@perseus1977 @RealityRevInc @DMSpence2 @RealMGHarris Paul predates all other sources...he is considered more reliable than second century writings.
@TrueColorzx1@perseus1977 @RealityRevInc @DMSpence2 @RealMGHarris @GodlessEngineer furthermore, the fact that Paul never claims Cephas and others were disciples but were in fact apostles just like him argues against the idea that Cephas was originally a disciple.
It's quite feasible that later Christians turned Cephas into a disciple.
@TrueColorzx1@perseus1977 @RealityRevInc @DMSpence2 @RealMGHarris I'm @GodlessEngineer interacting officially as the CHRESTUS app that I now develop and own.
Ordo is trying to say that "The 12" and apostles are the same thing. The 12 could have been apostles. Paul never says that these Apostles are the disciples.
@RobertK22245756 it's just the explanations with the lesser amount of ad hoc assumptions. There are a lot of assumptions in your premise that can't be found in evidence.
My position has evidence behind each proposition.
@RobertK22245756 Paul could have been an eyewitness to Jesus. There are also at least 20 historical authors that should have written about Jesus yet they didn't
@RealityRevInc @chrestusapp @DMSpence2 @RealMGHarris A claim can certainly be considered as evidence. If you are trying to determine if there is a tiger in your backyard, you might want to seriously consider your neighbor’s claim that he heard a roar. That claim is evidence that can help in your determination.
@TrueColorzx1@perseus1977 @RealityRevInc @DMSpence2 @RealMGHarris Paul does not ever mention Disciples in his writings. He only references Apostles. Everything we know about Disciples comes from Mark or is tainted by existing Christian theology that Mark embodies.
@perseus1977@TrueColorzx1 @RealityRevInc @DMSpence2 @RealMGHarris "The Twelve" in Paul are not designated as the Disciples. Everything after Mark is most likely tainted by Mark.
You don't actually have a Q source. It's a hypothetical source, not an actual source.
@perseus1977@TrueColorzx1 @RealityRevInc @DMSpence2 @RealMGHarris No, I nor Mythicism is the atheist version of a young earth creationist. I have good reasons to doubt that he existed.
Can you answer those questions I posed tho?
@TrueColorzx1@perseus1977 @RealityRevInc @DMSpence2 @RealMGHarris what evidence do you have to suggest that 1) the disciples existed at all and 2) that they appointed people or had successors.
Remember, apostles != disciples.
@RealityRevInc @chrestusapp @DMSpence2 @RealMGHarris It’s very likely that the gospel writers preserve eyewitness traditions. Bauckham constructs a very forceful case in support of this contention.
@RealityRevInc @chrestusapp @DMSpence2 @RealMGHarris Bart Ehrman is not out to discredit or disprove Christianity. His scholarship is actually very mainstream. I agree with many, but not all, of his positions. That’s how critical thinking works. You examine the arguments and evidence and then draw your own logical conclusions.
