I’ve been looking forward to turning 40 for years.

I’m not sure why.

Perhaps it just seemed like the peak of adulthood. Or maybe I thought that was when my life would finally start making sense.

I’m happy to say, life makes sense at 40.

Am I still making dumb mistakes?

Hell yeah!

But I’m making them knowing who I am. Grounded, at ease (most of the time), living on my own terms. Doing things because I want to, not because I think I should or because other people want me to.

40 feels like comfort, peace, joy and steadiness.

40 feels like 30, but with more money, more friends that I love who love me right back, and a much better understanding of what actually matters TO ME.

40 feels like being the best mother, daughter, sister, friend and occasionally, lover, that I can be, without all the pressure to be perfect.

40 feels like choices.

And choice is good!
