This is the Energy East pipeline that was proposed by TransCanada in the mid 2010s.

My team was responsible for the hydraulic calculations. We figured out the idea pathway, and where to locate the 65+ pump stations.

The project had a few big technical hurdles to overcome, one of which was how to power the pump stations through northern Ontario.

The other big proble was how to store all that oil in tanks, especially since the different shippers wanted to keep their products separate for each other.

The solution I proposed, which TC's marketing department opposed, was to structure the transportation agreements for a "fungible commodity"

A fungible commodity is a raw material or good whose individual units are completely interchangeable and identical in value. Because one unit is indistinguishable from another, buyers do not care about the specific origin or brand, allowing for seamless, bulk trading on global exchange.

The shippers didn't like that idea, because many believed that their oil was better than others'

At the Forever Canada rally in Red Deer, a woman from the crowd walked up and tried to tell me I wasn’t allowed to record.

Very politely, of course.

But this was a public political event. Thomas Lukaszuk announced it publicly. People showed up with flags, signs, speeches, and political messages. I was there peacefully, with a camera, asking questions and documenting the conversation.

That is how democracy works.

It’s interesting how quickly some people support “free speech” and “democracy” until someone they disagree with shows up and records what actually happens.

I wasn’t there to harass anyone.

I wasn’t there to cancel anyone.

I wasn’t there to cause trouble.

I was there to ask Forever Canada supporters why Alberta should stay in Canada, and to give them a chance to make their best argument.

If your position is strong, you should want the conversation recorded.

I went to downtown Red Deer, stood near the immigration centre with my Alberta flag, and asked polite questions about immigration, integration, fraud, welfare, culture, and Alberta independence.

The most important conversation was with a Chilean immigrant who came to Canada 28 years ago. It is about 25 minutes in.

He followed the process.
He learned English.
He worked.
He paid taxes.
He integrated.
He loves Canada.

And he still said many of the things Canadians are afraid to say out loud.

Mass immigration is not fair to Canadians, and it is not fair to immigrants who came here properly, respected the country, and built a life here.

Ottawa controls immigration. Alberta does not.

If we Albertans stay in Canada, we are accepting this system.
