@angeloinchina@mazzenilsson I haven’t heard this from pro-Chavista Venezuelan activists whose analysis I would take seriously before a native Italian living in Hong Kong.
🇮🇱 🇲🇽 Mexico bought more guns from Israel than from any other country last year, even as President Sheinbaum condemned genocide in Gaza.
Amid genocide in Gaza and Israel’s wider regional war, Mexico's government bought more firearms from Israel than from any other country in 2025, according to Mexico's report to the UN Arms Trade Treaty, in an analysis by Stop US Arms to Mexico published in NACLA.
The nearly 18,000 assault rifles, light machine guns, and pistols made up 37% of all firearms Mexico imported that year, more than triple its 2024 purchases and just ahead of the US. Most were bought by state police, as no federal policy in Mexico blocks the imports.
The reliance on foreign arms reflects a security bind: Mexico is fighting heavily armed cartels supplied largely by what analysts call the “iron river” of guns flowing south from the US, where an estimated 80% to 90% of firearms recovered in Mexico originate.
Still, the purchases highlight a contradiction in Sheinbaum's stance: her government has elevated Palestine's mission to embassy status and labeled Israel's actions "genocide" in September 2025, yet deepened its weapons ties with Israel.
Sometimes it feels like these times will be forever, but they too shall pass. The following is a thoughtful essay.

@FlurgMcDurk@ProudSocialist No. It’s because the U.S., Canada and Mexico were hosts for the 2026 World Cup. The final was played in New York so FIFA decided DJT should be part of the awards ceremony.
🧵Lionel Messi: Netanyahu’s Favorite Footballer. Messi’s Ties To Israel Explored
The world’s eyes were on Lionel Messi on Wednesday night, as Argentina faced England in the World Cup semi-final. The diminutive superstar has gained a massive following across the planet, not least in Israel, thanks to his numerous business and security connections with the Apartheid State. From being the face of an Israeli A.I. company led and run by Israeli spies, to entrusting his private security to a team of Israel secret agents, MintPress explores the reasons why Benjamin Netanyahu considers him to be his favorite football player.
@RyanRozbiani I’m for Spain. Regrettably, there seems to be a strong fascist wave that has taken over much of the western world so it wouldn’t surprise me to see the boys in blue triumph. I’ll just have to drink a lot of sangria and cheer for Yamal.
