@JohnHann04 "40 degrees? Luxury! In 1976 we lived on t'surface o' t'sun. We'd wake up in t'morning, reassemble our bodies from where they'd been turned into ionised plasma, clean t'sun, then walk 93 million miles to work at t'blast furnace... and you'd never hear us complaining!"
Out Run turns 40 this year. In 1986, this game introduced a ton of cool new features.
It was the first arcade cabinet with a steering wheel featuring force feedback to mimic road surfaces, plus pedals and a gear shift.
It was also the first to let players choose from three synth-pop tracks (Magical Sound Shower, Passing Breeze, and Splash Wave) via an in-game radio to personalize the vibe.
It simulated real Ferrari Testarossa traits (horsepower, torque, and gears) and allowed skillful drifting - or bad drifting, in my case.
The road would fork (left/right) at certain intervals, also a first for its type, giving the player choice and making it more interactive.
Out Run ultimately became Sega's top-selling arcade game in 1987.
@philroberts@EVCircles@RenaultAU As I understand it, the passenger experience of the R5 isn't great. e.g. one of the air vents doesn't point at the passenger. I didn't like the visibility out of the back window, but most other things were ok. Like a not quite as good later Zoe that looks better from the outside.
@AutoPap I wanted to love the Renault 5, but I got one as a hire car and I prefer the Zoe. Bad visibility out of the rear window and poor for the passenger being the main gripes.
@dchackethal@hamptonism Four years? My electronics engineering lecturer said in 1995 that there was no point doing a programming module as computers would be able to write the code soon.
@chug3345@Earth2075@andreajenkyns@TiceRichard@Earth2075 is an EV driver, so probably has a time of use tariff where electricity is 7p overnight. You heat your hot water overnight and heat the house early morning, so you get 7p divied by 3 which is much cheaper than gas.
@TravelSYorks Yes, but say you have an account and then you become a student, so do you need to then change the account type? I can see no option to change the account to a student account?
